AJ and Elizabeth were both out of the office. I felt sick, but then I realised Michelle was waiting for an answer.

“I’ve been away. I got back last night, and her phone has been off.”

Michelle looks relieved. “Oh, cool. Maybe she’s sleeping.”

Lunch with fucking AJ?

I knew something was wrong.

“Okay, well, I’ll go see her then.”

At her and Brandon’s place. Surely, that’s where she was, hiding out. She’s told Tye and Zeus she’s seeing family and told work she’s ill.

But then AJ is off, too?

This doesn’t make sense.

“Nice to meet you! Send Elizabeth my love!” Michelle called after me as I sent her a wave over my shoulder.

The rage was back, and this time, it was like a dark mist, flooding every part of my body, my muscles aching under the weight of it.

The elevator seemed to take forever, but when it eventually stopped, the doors slid open to reveal no other than AJ-fucking-West.

“What the hell are you doing here, Haddon?” AJ’s lip curled in disgust as he looked me up and down. “I don’t recall you making an appointment.”

I wanted to slam my fist into his smug fucking face, but instead I focused on Elizabeth.

“Where’s Elizabeth?” I growled out, my hands bunching into fists beside me.

AJ blinked with surprise, pushing past me to step into the elevator.

“Now, why would I know that?”

“Don’t fuck with me. Your assistant, Michelle, told me you were ill, just like Elizabeth.”

AJ pressed the elevator button, rolling his eyes at me like an adolescent.

I held the doors apart, my fingers sliding between the metal as I glared at him.

“I told you not to fuck with me.”

AJ stepped forward as he licked his lips.

“I was with her. All night.” His eyes looked far away, and he bit his lip dramatically. “But then we had a chat, and she left.”

He shrugged like he hadn’t just delivered the worst news.

“I don’t believe you.” I scoffed, releasing the elevator doors when security stepped closer, eyeballing me.

Fuck him and his mind games.

This time, it was AJ who gripped the doors.

“Don’t you? Go and ask her yourself.”
