The tears choked my voice, and I wiped them away roughly. Crying wouldn't solve anything.

“Tye. I fell in love with Reign. He never lied to me but left out something too big to gloss over.”

“Fuck,” Tye repeated and tugged me into his arms. “No wonder you wanted to hide.”

We sat like that as the sun moved across the sky until my stomach rumbled so loud that Tye chuckled.

“I’ll make us some food.”

“Do we have any in?” I asked idly, wondering what he was going to make. Surely, the cottage didn't come with food unless the owner had notice.

“No,” Tye said with a smile, dropping a kiss on my head. “But Zeus is coming over with groceries.”

“Zeus? Will he tell Reign where I am?” I sat up in a panic, and Tye rested his hands on my shoulders, his eyes locking onto mine.

“No. Zeus cares about you; you know this. We all do, Lizzie.”

“But Reign—”

“Reign doesn’t know where you are. He knows you’re with me, so I’ll call him and tell him you’re safe. Okay? He just wants to know you’re safe.”

Tye's eyes lifted from mine, and I saw the doubt hiding there. His best friend hid something from him, too.

“Can we talk to Zeus about this?” Tye asked, stroking my jawline with his finger.

I gripped his hand, turning my face into it as I inhaled his scent.

He's not Reign, but it’s okay.

Tye was my protector. If he trusts Zeus, then so do I.

“Okay,” I whispered, looking up as he leaned close.

His lips pressed softly against mine, and I held onto him like he was my lifeline.

“I’m scared, Tye.”

Tye stroked my hair, his eyes softening. “I know. I’m here.”

The sound of a motorcycle approaching the cottage made my eyebrows rise in alarm, but Tye winked.

“Zeus borrowed my motorbike; it’s all good.”

Phew.

Zeus laughed at me when I told him what Alexander said about Reign.

Tye glared at him, but Zeus stared at us both like we were the nut jobs.

“Are you both crazy?” Zeus demanded, slamming a carton of orange juice onto the counter besides the eggs and bacon.

My stomach rumbled at the sight of food, and Tye moved past Zeus to start cooking.

“I’m just telling you what he told me,” I said, crossing my arms. “I’mnotlying.”
