Him and Brooklyn childishly pump fists, clearly laughing at me.

“If you say one more word,” I grit, my hands balling into fists.

“You’ll what?”

I stand, pushing my chair out. “I’ll fucking knock your head of your goddamn shoulders.” I don’t know how to be cool where Hartley’s concerned. I’m ready to punch his fucking face in.

Brooklyn moves between the two of us. “Now, now, gentleman. Let's take a beat to ease the testosterone. No one needs to resort to violence. Gray’s boning Hartley, get over it. They’re cute together, if you ask me. I think you crazy kids have a real shot.”

“Nobody asked you,” I gripe.

Gabe won’t let up. “I have to agree. I mean, snapping her up before anyone else even gets a look in is mighty impressive. You’re a Bassett deep down after all, under all that masochistic exterior.”

I roll my eyes. "Has anyone ever told you that you talk more nonsense than our sister?"

“Hey!” Georgia says from the open door. “I heard that!”

I roll my eyes. “Why is everyone here? Congregating around my fucking office. Can all of you piss off and leave me the hell alone!”

“What did I do?” Georgia sulks. “And there’s no need to shout. I’m standing right here.”

“Don’t mind him, he’s just pissed that we know he’s doing the wild thing with Hartley Chambers, and that’s breaking the rules. Of course, I’m no judge in a court of law, so I could be wrong,” Gabe laughs.

“I knew it!” Georgia points a finger at me. “Glad to see I’m on the ju-ju train. You can’t mistake those vibes for anything else.”

“See? Even Georgia’s noticed,” Gabe snarks.

“You’re all giving me a headache,” I mutter.

“Well, I think it’s great,” Brooklyn says. “Although we may need Beau’s input.”

I put my head in my hands.

“No,” Georgia tells us firmly. “If this gets out, it can put Gray’s divorce in jeopardy. And we don’t need to give that two-timing, good-for-nothing whore any more ammunition.”

“You could just use her name, George,” I sigh.

She ignores me. “I mean it, boys. No muttering a word of this to anyone else. Who else knows?” Her eyes land on me.

There’s no point in denying it. “Hudson,” I say. “And for the record. We hooked up in New York before I found out she was moving here, so that answers your petty little questions, Gabriel. Think you’ll be able to sleep at night now? For the record; I’m doing A-okay.”

He smiles with satisfaction. “Oh, I’ve no doubt you are. Pity we can’t tell Mom and Dad. They’ll be over the moon you’ve finally moved on from that nightmare of a woman you married that nobody liked.”

“Thanks for reminding me. I’d almost forgotten.” I wish they’d all just leave me alone.

Brooklyn points at me. “Meeting later, in the vault. Need to run something by you.” I know what that’s code for; Brook’s new malt that we’ve affectionately called Moonshine.

“What have you got to run by him and not me?” Gabe frowns.

Brooklyn taps his nose. “That’s for me to know, and you to find out.”

“Let’s get back to the game plan,” Georgia huffs.

I hold up a finger. “There is no game plan, Georgia-Blue, now for the love of god…”

She shakes her head, annoyed. “Nobody breathes a word of this. Pinkie promise.”

Brooklyn hoots with laughter and Gabe snorts. “You’re right,” she goes on. “Beau should be informed; it's not right for him to be excluded.”
