So help me…

“Out of all of you, Beau is the most likely to say nothing to nobody, something I wish you’d learn someday, George,” I mutter.

Still chuckling, Gabe pushes off the wall. “This has been fun, y’all, but sadly, I’ve got work to do.”

Brooklyn gives me a hard slap on the back as he goes to leave. “Proud of you, bro. Hartley’s a fox. Glad you got in there before I did,” he snickers.

“Fuck off!” I shove him off me, and he slings an arm around Georgia as they leave.

“We’re not done here, Grayson Robert Bassett!” she calls over her shoulder. “Do you hear me?”

“I tuned out the minute you started yapping on about vibes,” I yell back.

Finally, they’re all gone.

So now they all know. Fucking great. So much for being discreet.

I lay my head on my desk and bang it against the wood, hoping it’ll beat some sense into me.

Grayson

A week passes by in the blink of an eye. I keep Keira waiting, because unlike her, I don’t run my entire life around what she’s doing or my goddamn divorce.

Hartley has been spending equal time with her family, and her nights at my place.

The summer is slowly fading as the season begins to change. Pretty soon, I’ll be loading the small open fire up with wood to keep the place warm in the coming cooler months.

Every single moment that I spend with her, I’m reminded about how perfect we are together and how good it feels to be around her.

And as time has moved on, we’ve talked extensively about the pros and cons of meeting with Keira, but as I’ve decided recently, I want this done.

The only way she’ll get off my back is if I make it seem like I’m compromising. Which I’m not. But she’s dragged it out for way longer than it needs to be, and if I know anything about her, it’s that she likes to think she’s had the last word. She won’t stop until she gets her own way. If it costs me one little dinner, then this could be all over. If she was going to go before a judge, she would’ve done it by now.

I’ve given her hundreds of thousands of dollar’s worth of furniture on top of our deal, and she opted to sell the house instead of buying me out, so she can take the alimony.

I do up the buttons on my shirt, preferring to keep the meeting formal and I hope tonight will be the night I’ll finally be divorced.

I shoot Hartley a text.

Me:

I’ll be at Moose’s. Just in case she attempts anything shady and you have to send out a search party.

Hartley:

I love that you chose the rowdiest restaurant in Stoney Creek.

I smirk. There are a couple of other fine dining restaurants in town, but this seemed fitting. Hopefully I won’t be able to hear her talk over the music. I chose karaoke night for a reason.

The last fucking thing I ever wanted to do was face her again, but here we are.

I can feel a change in the air. I need this. I need her to take that giant stick out of her ass and sign those goddamn papers.

Me:

I know you think I’m making a mistake. But I know what I’m doing
