I’m so damned proud of her. All of this was so unexpected, but both of us are ready to tackle this new phase of our life.

We head over to share our news with my family right after we leave Jim and Linda’s place. My brothers all hug us, my sister is lost for words for once, and my parents are in complete shock, but that quickly turns to elation.

“Always knew you had it in you, bro,” Brooklyn says, his arm slung around Hartley.

“Proud of you.” Gabe gives me a strong handshake, but then pulls me in for a hug.

Georgia jumps up and down, my mom and her crying equally. Beau gives us both a hug, and Hudson, who comes over the second I text him, has a smug look on his face.

“I knew you were smitten the day you got back from New York,” he says. “Congratulations.” He of all people knows how badly I’ve wanted to start a family.

“I knew way before you did.” Georgia is adamant. “I got that whole woo-woo vibe from Gray whistling tunes for no reason.”

“I don’t whistle.” I roll my eyes.

She ignores me. “Yes, he does. And I’m going to be an Aunt! That’s so cool you guys!”

“We’re both so overwhelmed,” Hartley says as I rescue her from my brother. “But we can’t wait. It’s a whole new chapter for both of us, in fact, for all of us.”

“The first Bassett grand baby!” My dad declares. “We need to organize a party to celebrate.”

Hartley and I are too caught up in each other to take too much in.

We head out to the house, the keys in my hand and a spring in my step. Everything’s finally falling into place.

“All we need now are our own stables, some goats and maybe a few ducks.” I grin as we pull up in Bessie.

Hartley fires me a look. “You mean you want a hobby farm now?”

“Yeah, why not? Maybe even a dog too.”

“Now a dog would be great.” She smiles as we walk up to the house and I jangle the keys around in my hand. “But I think we’re going to have a little bit on our hands when the baby comes.”

I smile. “Can you believe we’ve done this?” I say, looking up at our beautiful place.

Callan used cladding and reclaimed wood on the exterior, as well as mixing modern with rustic on the inside. Without him, the house wouldn’t be anywhere near finished in time.

We both love the farmhouse, country-look. Owen and Daniel both helped out, along with Hudson. Everyone in the family has pitched in where they could and we appreciate all the help we’ve gotten.

“Who would have thought?” Hart wraps her arm around me as we both look at our dream home in wonder.

“I have it all.” I agree as we walk arm in arm to the huge oak front doors. It has a cool vintage brass door knocker. She blinks up at me as I pause. “You. Coyote Run…” I move my hands down to her stomach. “And now baby Bassett.”

“I have it all too, Gray. More than I could have ever dreamed.” She reaches up to kiss me softly as I wrap my arms around her.

“Maybe we both got lucky, baby. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“I can’t wait to see the baby growing.” I can’t stop touching her stomach since we found out, I find the whole thing amazing. And yes, I’m going to be that hands on dad at every prenatal appointment and ultrasound. I can’t wait.

“Are you sure you’re gonna love me when I’m huge?”

“What’s not to love?” I grin, bending a little as I scoop my arm under her legs, the other arm still wrapped around her and lift her off her feet.

“Gray!” she squeals as I hold her close to me. “What are you doing?”

“Carrying you over the threshold, baby.”
