We’ve both talked about marriage but with the shock of the pregnancy we’ve been too wrapped up. This is the final surprise.

She giggles. “We’re not married.”

“Not yet.”

Her eyes meet mine. “Marry me, Hartley Alice Chambers? Please make me the happiest man in the world.”

She gasps in shock and I nudge the door open and sit her ass down on the ledge in the hall. Pulling out the box in my back pocket I pop it open.

“It was my Grandmother’s. I know you like vintage things, and we can remodel it if you like…” The diamond is oval and very elegant. I had it cleaned and polished and it gleams in the afternoon sunlight.

“Oh, Gray, it’s perfect!” Tears roll down her face as I slide the ring on her finger and she looks down at it, the smile split across her face matches mine. “We’re really doing this?”

“Yes, we’re really doing this. I love you.”

“Not as much as I love you.” She presses her lips to mine as I pick her up and she wraps her legs around me.

The late summer sun shining through the large front windows, spreading the most amazing glow across the light oak timber floors.

We both sigh as we take in the scene. It’s exactly how I’ve pictured it for so, so long.

Now I have not just Hartley in my arms, but our baby on the way too.

Life couldn’t get any better than this.

I’m finally at home.
