We exchanged texts last night, but with the crazy day I’d had, we haven’t had the chance to talk. If I leave her too long, she’ll blow a gasket.

She picks up on the second ring. “Harts, long time no hear.”

I laugh. “Hey, yourself.”

“My god girl, if your texts are anything to go by, I’d say you’re all wrapped back up in Grayson Bassett again! Tell me everything! Talk about keeping a girl on the edge.”

“Hold your horses,” I chuckle. “I’m still trying to get over the shock of him turning up like that at the office.”

“I can’t even believe we joked about him being your Gray. Careful what you wish for, eh? He might just show up where you least expect it.”

“And did,” I say, still reeling.

“From what your texts suggested, the chemistry is still flying?”

“Yeah, you could say that. He kissed me at work when we went into my office for a second. Dad and Regina were in the next room!”

She squeals, and I hold the phone away from my ear. “And you’re telling me you haven’t jumped his bones again?”

“It’s not like I don’t want to, Darbs. I can’t. You know how it is with him being my client now. I need to keep my reputation intact and wait until the divorce is signed and finished with before we even consider anything.”

“How long will that take?”

“Hopefully not too much longer.”

“You can screw him in secret, surely?”

I splutter on a sip of mocha and lean forwards so I don’t spill it on my suit. “Darbs!”

She cackles. “Oh, come on, you want to. I bet he’s gagging for it, too.”

“The trouble is, in this town, if you sneeze, everyone knows about it before you even have a chance to grab a tissue.”

“I get that. Small towns sound fun, though.”

“They have boot scooting.”

“Seriously?” She laughs.

“Yep, and a Raging Moose at the local tavern. It’s like a wild bull ride, but in moose form.”

“I have to visit soon. It sounds like Disney land down there.”

I laugh. I don’t tell her the last words Gray said to me, but they live rent free in my head; I’m coming for you…

“I don’t know about that, but I know the pastries I just bought from the local bakery look magazine-worthy. They have real cream butter frosting.”

“Stop it. Send me photos.”

“Of my half-eaten death by chocolate, seven layers of sin, crispy donut with coconut sprinkles? Sure thing.”

“I’m not listening. And I was just thinking, when I do come down for a visit, doesn’t Gray have a couple of single brothers?” She laughs.

My best friend is on the lookout for a good guy, she’s had nothing but one dud after another. Not that she’d have much selection in Stoney Creek, not after Georgia’s revelation.

“Three to be precise. Their sister, Georgia, just gave me the skinny on all of them, plus the other two single guys in town who run a horse farm.”

“Oh god, cowboys?”
