“One of them might be right up your alley. Broken. Broody and trains wild horses for a living.”

“Ha-ha, I am good with needy men. I think I need to take a trip to Tennessee A.S.A.P.”

“Well, in reality, you’d probably be bored in five seconds,” I laugh. “But by all means.”

“You’re forgetting one thing, Hart, I can make my own fun anywhere.”

“That’s true.”

“So what are you going to do next with the Gray situation?”

“He’s coming over to the office soon so I can go over the divorce settlement with him. I had an interesting conversation with his ex’s lawyer this morning. Trust me when I say I got the upper hand.”

“You’re superwoman, do you know that?”

“Hardly, but thanks for the vote of confidence.”

“I don’t know how you do that job, day in, day out. Seeing the awful ways people who were once in love can hurt each other must be truly depressing.”

“It can be sometimes,” I say. “Nobody really wins in court. I say this all the time.”

“That’s why I’m never getting married,” she declares.

I laugh. She’s been saying this since forever and a day. She’s not the traditional type, that’s for sure. “Famous last words, you just haven’t met a good country boy yet.”

“Ooh, here’s hoping,” she laughs. “I guess the tables can turn unexpectedly, even in a small town. The men sound hot.”

“Well, I’ll keep you posted if any tables turn around here. I’ve gotta go, Gray is due any minute.”

“You sure you can’t throw him a quickie even before you fix up his divorce? This whole sneaking around thing is kinda hot.”

“My hands are tied, D, at least until this is over.”

She snorts. “Yeah, I bet they are!”

I want to facepalm myself because I didn’t mean it like that, but my mind springs back to him calling me his good girl and it’s a wonder I haven’t jumped him yet. His words still make my heart thud and my panties melt.

“I guess I fell for that one, didn’t I?” I laugh.

“Go get em’ tiger.”

“I’ll talk to you later.”

“Wait, you never told me if that kiss included some tongue?”

“Hanging up now.”

“You’re so mean!”

“And you’re nosy.”

“My bet is, you’ll have him pinned down by the end of the weekend. You can only play it cool for so long,” she chuckles.

“I’m not pinning him down!” I whisper-shout.

“Uh huh, I’ll believe it when I see it.”

“Going now.”
