“Which would you prefer?” Lennon asked smugly.

“It’s not like that,” I denied.

“Oh, please,” she scoffed. “I’ve known you since we were little, Posie. The fact that you’re noticing if he shaves or not tells me a lot.”

“Even if I were attracted to him, he’s my boss, Lennon,” I reminded her.

“So?” she huffed, and I envied how things were so simple for her. If Lennon wanted something, she went after it with no fear and no regrets.

“Well, even if he wasn’t my boss, I have too much baggage for one man to carry,” I replied. “What man wants to sign up for that?”

“A man that’s not afraid of life,” she countered. “Plus, if your baggage is too much for one man, then get two. Hell, get seven if you need them. Who gives a fuck?”

I choked out a laugh. “Really? That’s your advice? Threesomes?”

“Orgies if you choose the option of seven men,” she huffed.

That got me laughing, and it was insane how Lennon was able to do that for me. She didn’t treat me like a victim, and I needed that in my life. I needed someone that refused to let me feel sorry for myself.

Now, normally, someone would cringe at her suggestions of multiple bed partners because of what I’d been through, but I knew that she really wasn’t talking about sex. Lennon was talking about companionship. She was talking about different men meeting my different needs, mostly my emotional and mental ones.

“Killian Warrick deals with victims all day long, Lennon. I’m sure that the last thing that the man would want to do is go home to one,” I told her.

“True,” she agreed. “That is, if you were a victim, which you are not.”

“I love you for saying that.”

“It’s true,” she insisted. “Besides, you’re making assumptions about the guy when you don’t even know him. I mean, sure, he sounds like a jerk, but you grew up with nothing but jerks, so what’s one more in the family?”

That got another laugh out of me. While the men in Lennon’s family could easily be classified as jerks, they were the good kinds of jerks, if there was such a thing. They were definitely alphas in every sense of the word, but I’ve seen them be jerks, too.

“I’m not about to seduce my boss,” I drawled out. “Besides, I know nothing about seducing anyone.”

“He’s a man,” she deadpanned. “Just breathe near him.”

“God, you really are man-hating right now.”

“It’s this goddamn period,” she sighed.

“Look, I’m taking my renewal week in two weeks,” I said, changing the subject. “Would it be okay if I came to visit?”

“Like you have to ask,” she automatically replied. “You know that you’re always welcomed here, Posie.”

“I know, but I just wanted to make sure you guys didn’t have any plans.”

“I might be planning a funeral if Camden doesn’t tread carefully these next few days, but other than that, we’re good. Mi casa es su casa,” she replied cheerfully.

“You’d be lost without that man,” I chided.

In true Lennon fashion, she said, “I’d be picking up one less pair of dirty underwear, is what I’d be if Camden ever met an unfortunate demise.”

“I heard that!”

“You were meant to hear that!” she hollered back.

“I miss you,” I admitted. “I really miss you, Lennon.”

She was back to being serious. “Not as much as I miss you. I worry about you every day, Posie.”
