The line goes dead, and I take a seat in the chair next to my bed and stare at her. I pulled her snowsuit off, and my eyes drink in the sight of her curvy body as she sleeps.

She’s so perfect. I’m not surprised that she has other men after her, but that all stops today. She’s mine, and I’m going to make sure that everyone knows it. I’m going to protect her, love her, and keep her.

I just need to get her on board with all of that now too.

My head is poundingand I search my brain for what happened as I try to blink my eyes open. The lights must be off in here because the room is cast in shadows. A flickering fire is heating the room from the corner, and I smile slightly as I cuddle further under the blankets.

The blanket smells good and I pull it up to my nose, breathing deeper.

I don’t remember seeing this blanket when I unpacked…

I look around the room again, realizing that I don’t recognize anything from this room.

I scream, sitting up in bed and trying to scramble away from the strange man sitting next to the bed.

“Easy,” he says, standing and heading towards me.

That’s when I remember the man that attacked me in the snow.

Oh, shit. Is this my stalker?

I never really saw his face, but it has to be him, right? No one else was out there with us.

I search my brain for what happened, but it’s hazy. I remember the cloth and falling asleep. I remember how scared I was.

I scramble back on the bed as the man approaches. He’s huge, at least a foot taller than me and twice as wide. He’s handsome with dark brown hair and muscles that threaten to tear his clothes.

This man needs to stalk someone to get a girl?I think with a frown. You’d think that he’d be able to get any girl that he wanted.

“Listen, I don’t know how you found me, but you don’t want to do this,” I try to plead with him.

“Calm down. I’m not the guy that attacked you,” he tells me, his voice deep and filled with authority.

“Sure,” I say in disbelief.

He steps closer, and I look up into his eyes. His gray eyes.

A pair of angry brown eyes fills my head and I remember how my attacker’s eyes had looked in that ski mask.

This guy can’t be him then.

“I’m not the man who was trying to hurt you. I scared him off and brought you back here. You were bleeding,” he says, nodding down to my hands. “I pushed him off of you and he ran off. Don’t worry though, we’ll find him.”

“We’ll?” I ask, and he nods.

“I’m Niko. I’m in charge of the Mountain Rescue here in Aspen Ridge. I came across you when I was checking on the east side of the mountain.”

“Oh… then I’m glad that you were there. Thank you,” I whisper.

I lift my hands, taking in the bandages and wince.

“I’ll get you something for the pain,” he says, heading into the attached bathroom.

My feet and legs hurt too and I gingerly slide to the edge of the bed and pull my yoga pants up. My eyes widen when I see all of the bruises spreading along my skin.
