“Oh,” he says, seeming taken aback.

I haven’t told anyone that Frankie is my mate yet. Mainly because I didn’t want anyone to blab to her before I had a chance to tell Frankie about us being mates.

“Okay, well, if you’re sure,” Davis says.

“I’m sure.”

“I just mean that I know that you agreed to let Frankie stay when we were traveling back to Aspen Ridge and before you knew all of the information. I think that we all thought that something would have happened by now. I just don’t want you to feel stuck. I mean, she might be at your place for a month or two, you know?”

She’ll be here for a lot longer than that,my bear chimes in, and I smile.

“We’re fine.”

Davis still doesn’t seem convinced, but he’s not going to argue. I don’t blame him. He just found his fated mate last month, and the two of them are all over each other. With the full moon coming up soon, it’s only going to get worse.

For both of us,my bear growls at me.

“I’ll talk to you later,” I say before I hang up.

I toss my phone onto the dresser and sigh as I stare at the wall that separates me from Frankie.

Go in there,my bear urges me.

I walk closer to the wall, pressing my ear there, and I can hear the gentle sounds of her breathing.

She’s asleep,I tell him, and he sighs.

Tomorrow. We need to claim her tomorrow.

No.

Yes, or at least before the full moon in a few days.

I know.

Now it’s my turn to sigh as I get ready for bed and think about the full moon coming up and how I need to find the right time to tell my mate everything.

I barely sleep that night as I try to figure out the best way to have that talk.

Frankie

“Want to go window shopping?”Cameron asks me as we finish our lunch.

“Sure. I haven’t seen downtown yet.”

“There’s not a ton to see,” she says with a laugh, and I smile.

She’s right. Aspen Ridge is a tiny town. I think the population is like one hundred people, and most people who came here are either lost, driving through on the way to Anchorage, or are here for the ski resort.

Our waitress drops the bill off, and Cameron pays it before I can object.

“Let’s go,” she says with a bright smile.

I follow her out of the Full Moon Diner, and we head across the street to a row of shops. She heads into a little boutique, and I follow her, looking at all the pretty clothes I can’t afford to buy.

I hate feeling like a burden to my friend, to anyone really, but the truth is that I don’t have a ton of money, and I know that if I get a job, it will just be easier for my father or his friends to findme. I’d have to find someone who was willing to pay me under the table so that I didn’t have to fill out any paperwork.
