I head into the living room and take a seat. My mind is racing, and I wonder how the hell they found me.

My phone rings, and I assume it’s Cameron calling to check on me, so I answer without looking.

“I’m fine,” I say as soon as I hit accept.

“You won’t be when I get my hands on you,” my father snarls, and I freeze. “How could you do this to me? Do you know how much money you’ve cost me?”

“I…”

I open my mouth but can’t get any other words out.

How did he get my new number? What do I do now? Hang up on him? I know he would just call back and be even angrier.

“Peter and his men are in town. You are to meet them in town in one hour. Don’t make me come up there and drag you back,” he snarls at me.

Then the line goes dead as he hangs up on me.

I’m hyperventilating and shaking when Gunner comes inside and finds me.

“Frankie! What’s wrong? What’s happened?” He asks, dragging me into his lap and holding me close.

“My dad called,” I choke out. “He knows that I’m here, and he’s demanding that I go meet his friends in town. Otherwise, he’s going to come up here and get me.”

“You’re not going anywhere,” Gunner growls, his voice firm.

“They know that I’m here. They’ll find me and drag me back.”

“No. I’ll kill them before they can lay a finger on you,” he vows.

I should be scared by his words, but instead, they comfort me. It’s so nice to have someone looking after me for a change.

“What do we do now?” I ask him.

“We’ll find the men, and deal with them.”

I want to ask him what that means, but on second thought, I don’t want to really know.

I rest my head against his chest, trying to ignore how good it feels to be in his arms.

I love him.

That thought shocks me and I shift off of his lap. He frowns at me, but lets me go.

Could this just be a fear response? Or is there something about Alaska or this place that has people falling in love so fast? I mean, first Cameron and now me. Both of us fell hard for our men in under a week.

Crap, and he doesn’t even see me that way. I need to get my feelings under control and fast.

“You’ll have to stay here. Cameron can come over with Davis, but you can’t leave.”

I nod, trying to calm my racing heart.

“Do you want to talk about it?” He asks me, and I swallow hard.

“I don’t want to go back.”

“You won’t. This is your home now.”

I nod, and he reaches over and squeezes my hand.
