“I am skating.”

“Are you?”

“Yes. You would be, too, if you would’ve stuck with it.”

“I did stick with it. I just didn’t stay in the program.”

“You don’t compete.”

Belle shrugged again and said, “I didn’t see the need to anymore.”

“But you loved it. You were so good, Belle. You would’ve made the Olympic Team had you stayed in the program.”

“We’ll never know now. And I couldn’t stay.”

“You still skate, though. I saw you on the ice last night. Do you still practice for real, or just skate around and play hockey?”

“I skate every day. I basically live at the Ice Park. I’m out there before we open and after we close most nights, and I play hockey because it’s fun and it gets me on the ice even more.”

“And you still take it seriously?”

“Hockey?”

“Figure skating.”

“I landed a double Axel yesterday, so you tell me.”

Chandler nodded and asked, “Are you still faster than me on the ice?” She smiled at Belle and finished her wine. “I bet you’re not anymore.”

“You want to bet me about my speed on the ice? You realize that while I might not compete, I have a cot in my office because I sometimes just sleep there instead of going home because I want to be close to the ice, right?”

“No, I didn’t know that. That’s weird, Belle. You have a bed at home, I presume.”

“Yeah, I do.” She chuckled.

“You should use it.”

“I do most of the time.”

There was a lull in the conversation. Belle found herself staring into the blue eyes, and they were staring right back into her own blue ones as if they were trying to silently determine who would say what next.

“We should race.”

“On the ice?” Belle checked.

“Yeah. Why not? Afraid you can’t take me anymore?”

“I won literally every race when we were kids.”

“We’re not kids anymore,” Chandler reminded.

Belle swallowed and said, “Okay. Fine. When?”

“Why not now?”

“Now?”

“Yeah. Why not?”
