Everyone gasped. Ramiel drew his golden sword. Even Roth moved to stand as a protective wall between their girl and the head of the Praesidium.

“Oh, no,” Jezzie hurried to add. “I only take from the irredeemably corrupted. I test them first. I feed their darkest fantasies and give them what they want. If they take the bait I offer and their souls are as black as tar, then they are lost, and I cannot allow them freedom. The stronger the evil is in their soul when I consume them, the longer they keep me in existence. Funnily enough, I came pretty close to drying out the night I first met Roth. It’s what led to me meeting Balthazar, actually.”

“Hmm, We’ll come back to your ‘gifts’ later, but I’m very interested in hearing in more detail how you met Balthazar, aren’t you, Lucifer?” Ramiel said, pointedly. “Since no one other than us, Leraie, and the Almighty themselves knows his current situation. Maybe once the room is a little more empty you can fill us in?”

A chorus of, ‘We’re not leaving,’ filled the room and Lucifer chuckled as he shook his head.

“No point in them leaving, everyone here’s already been vetted, except my daughter and her mate. Both of whom I trust are well aware of more than we ourselves are in some areas, right?”

Jezzie and Nithe nodded.

“They’re her mates too, don’t forget. That’s gotta be hella weird, by the way,” Dante gleefully pointed out, gesturing to Athon and Roth. Both of whom looked at their General awkwardly.

“Okay, where do you want me to start?” Jezzie knew it was a loaded question, but wanted to see how impatient Ramiel really was.

“At the beginning,” came his brusque response.

“I was born at one minute past midnight on January 1st, 1946, bare assed and beautiful . . .”

“Not what I meant, though I’m sure Luc would love to hear all about that some other time. Skip to Balthazar and how you met the Archangel of Vengeance.”

Once they were all seated around the giant table with food and refreshments, Jezzie did just that. Roth clenched his fists and gritted his teeth when she recalled sleeping with him. Lucifer vowed to slice off his dick and Athon and Nithe shared a glance of understanding. Everyone has a past, not all of it is pretty. When it came to Raum, Jezzie cast a glance his way and paused. It was his choice how much he shared. He chose to gloss over the more vile details and was vague about his past before Raum, still, the tension in the room rose to fever pitch and Ramiel looked fit to kill. If the motherfucker had looked scary before, it’d been nothing compared to this.

They wrapped it all up with their escape and the Princes, but their tongues ceased to work at the mere thought of Michael.

By the time they were done, Jezzie looked visibly wilted and fatigued. It was late and all he wanted to do was wrap her in his arms and watch her sleep. If staying awake kept the demons from his own dreams far away, he’d take it as a bonus.

Chapter 43

Nithe took note of Roth’s silence as he practically seethed all the way back to their rooms. Nithe vibrated with tension at the thought of what the big buffoon might come out with once they were behind closed doors. He had the feeling his bondmate would’ve already made a run for it if not for the arm Athon had placed around his shoulders as they’d exited the meeting room. That, and Jezzie’s resolve to ignore him completely kept him striding forward.

The moment the door clicked shut behind them Jezzie padded her way slowly across the living room toward the bedrooms. Roth clearly had other plans and halted abruptly and flung Athon’s arm away before he spoke.

“Did you sleep with Balthazar, the Balthazar?”

His words froze Nithe and Athon to the spot.

“Come on, Roth, not tonight. Can’t you see she’s been through enough of an emotional wringer. This can wait. She’s ours now,” Athon chided.

“No. Answer the question, Jezzie!”

Jezzie’s dragging steps came to a halt on the thick, plush carpet, her head down.

“You really want to get into this now, Roth? Why does it matter? I already told you anyway.” Weariness clung to her words.

She sounded tired and already half asleep. He just wanted to bundle her up in bed, all of them together, and be her big spoon. But there was a bug up Roth’s ass, and if his bondmate wasn’t careful he’d find himself with a face full of fist.

“Just answer the damn question, Jezzie,” Roth practically snarled.

Their girl straightened her spine and spun on her heels. The last of her strength fuelled her movements as she stalked up to the hulking mass of seriously dumbass male who was intent on being a major prick.

Nithe took a step forward protectively as Athon inched toward Roth, but Jezzie stopped them both with a glare. She came to a halt a bare inch from the idiot’s chest and invaded his personal space; in much the same way he was invading her privacy.

“Fine, have it your way. Yes! Yes, I fucked Balthazar Morrigan. He was charming, attractive, and he gave off a daddy vibe which my seriously fucked up issues immediately latched onto. He also saved my fucking life. So, yes, thirteen years ago on the backend of a drugged and hungover shitfest of a week I slept with him. One time. Are you happy now, Roth? Does knowing make you feel better? Or do you want all the dirty little details? The way his hands felt on my body? What he said to get into my pants? Whether I climaxed? How many times I let him take me? No?

“Maybe if you came at this conversation with compassion, reason, and understanding instead of anger and accusation we’d both feel a heck of a lot better right now. You don’t hear me questioning your past sexual exploits and interactions by throwing around angry accusations, do you? No, because it’s none of my fucking business unless you want to share it. It’s your past, not mine. You can sleep in your old room, or your new one while you think about if you truly even wanna be with me. I’m too tired to deal with this shit right now. Ni, Ath, sleep wherever you need, I just don’t want to see that jackass until morning.

“Oh, and just so you know, if I’d been able to feed on that scumbag in the alley when you interrupted me none of it would have happened in the first place, and yet I, quite frankly, have no regrets. I’d go back in time and fuck him all over again if it meant I’d still end up here with all of you. Despite your shitty attitude right now, dumbass!”
