“When did you have the time to do all of this?” she asked, her mouth wide open in shock.
“Well, let’s just say that I had some help.” I winked and gave her a peck.
“No wonder you were so keen on both of us dropping June off at Amy’s house.”
“But, of course, that would have ruined the surprise.”
“This is so beautiful, babe. Thank you so much.” She enclosed me in a short embrace and then planted a kiss on my lips.
“You can hold onto that for now. That’s just to whet your appetite.” She winked and ran her index finger from my lips down to my chest.
“Perhaps we should skip dinner. What do you think?” I teased, grabbing her waist.
She laughed and pushed me away. “No way I’m skipping this spread. It smells so nice!” She uncovered the spread and jumped in excitement. “You made my favorite!” She hastily sat down and reached out for a plate to serve herself with.
“Allow me,” I said as I took the plate from her hand and dished out the food myself. “This is all a bribe, just so you know,” I teased.
“Oh, it is? Is there something you want in return?” she asked, smiling mischievously.
“You know what I want.” I winked again.
She suddenly placed her hand over her mouth and pretended to yawn. “I feel so tired. I think I’ll just go to bed as soon as I’m done eating.” She maintained a serious face and tried not to look at me as she spoke.
“Excuse you? Don’t even mess with me, young lady,” I warned, threatening to pack up the food.
She laughed heartily.
After dinner, I carried her up into the room. There were rose petals all over the stairs leading to my room. There were some on the bed, too, and in the hot bath.
I unzipped her dress and gently took it off, sniffing her sweet scent as I did. I removed her undies next, unclipping her bra straps and pulling her pants all the way down her thighs and feet. I’ve experienced what it feels like to have a real family with you both. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. You’re the sweetest person I’ve ever known. The way your mind works is exceptional. I never want this feeling to end.”
“Neither do I. I will nurse this feeling forever. I’ll nurture it and protect it with all I’ve got. Whatever happens and whatever life throws at us, I believe we can face it together and come out strong. You don’t have to ever deal with anything on your own anymore. I’ll be here to walk you through it and cheer you on,” I reassured her.
Her eyes were getting clouded with tears. I wiped them away with a finger.
“You’re not allowed to cry tonight, even out of joy,” I declared, planting another kiss on her lips, this time letting it linger.
