“She’ll even be washed,” Zander vows with a wink. “Text me when you’re done. I got my phone with me today.”

I’m still suspicious, but having some alone time with Verena would be good for me.

Get her alone long enough to enjoy some pleasurable activities.

“Fine,” I declare and release our seatbelt. “Text me when you’re back. We’ll wrap and maybe go somewhere to eat.”

“Perfect. I’ll be hungry by then,” he announces and looks at Verena. “Dolcezza, I need a good job kiss.”

She snickers and gives him a look but isn’t defiant about this tiny gesture. She shifts in my lap so she can lean over the driver’s side and give him a passionate kiss that has Zander groaning into her mouth.

“Easy there, Sweet Dynamite,” Zander mutters before he licks his lips. “Kiss me like I’m your world, and I’ll have to kill for you.”

“Tempting,” she replies and smiles. “Thanks for driving us to the mall, Zander.”

“You’re welcome, Dolcezza,” he replies with a genuine smile.

Seeing Zander so relaxed and smiling like this makes me realize that Verena could be a good thing for us.

A good and dangerous addition to the ruthless equation.

“Make sure you spend a shit ton of Dom’s money. I want him sweating buckets when he finds out how much you spent,” Zander encourages.

“You want us to die,” I whine, but I’m not opposed to the idea.

If Dom’s the main one destined to marry Verena’s little sister, he better learn how to spend money on her. Royalty have expensive fucking taste.

Now, I have to figure out how to get out of this contract.

AN OBJECT OF DISTASTE OR HIDDEN SATISFACTION

“This just looks wrong,” I complain in defeat, deciding this outfit just isn’t going to work.

Never in my wildest dreams would I wear something so “risky,” but I guess it wasn’t meant to be written in the stars because my reflection is screaming ‘slut with no fashion sense.’

“Sh-Should I get something else?”

I’d forgotten about the dressing room attendant. Her presence, despite me not seeing her, aggregates the fact we’ve spent two hours in this boutique and haven’t found a match worthy enough for tonight’s party.

“Ugh. No,” I huff. “I give up.”

“I-I’ll gladly search our new inventory and see if there’s anything to your liking! Please wait here for now. I’ll close the store and head to the other location in the midwest of the mall and acquire the set of limited edition clothing sets.”

I can’t ask her not to because her loud heels are clinking against the tiled floor, fading away in the distance.

“This doesn’t feel celebratory at all,” I whine. Maybe I’m acting like a spoiled brat, but I never thought shopping for a single outfit could be so stressful.

“You’re overthinking it,” Ares speaks up, followed by the knock on the changing room door. “Let me in.”

“You know this is the women’s changing room, yes?”

“I can read signs, Stubborn Canary,” he counters. “Stop being a Sour Patch Kid, and let me in.”

“Sour Patch Kid?” I cringe at the idea. “Hmph. Sour Patch Canary would be more accurate.”
