Makes it sound like we’re living in an apocalyptic era, but it’s ultimately the truth we rich individuals don’t have to experience. Everyone outside that wealthy tax bracket does—something our society has accepted.

It doesn’t matter how many police forces have been brought from across the world to fix this underlying problem. It gets cleaned up, tossed under the rug, and comes back to play a week later.

A waste of resources in the eyes of the wealthy.

That’s why it can be a playground for those with our filthy means to financially support bloodshed and laundering.

“Did you give the candidates a choice?” Warren argues. “Either she gets here on time or suffers the consequences.” He’s removing more of the leather around the wound.

Seeing all that blood flowing out of her thigh like that makes me feel sick. It shouldn’t. I have watched plenty die by my very hands, but after watching such graceful resilience, this isn’t the way things are supposed to turn out.

“Ares!” Domino hisses. “Kian.”

“Oh.” Another slip in my perfected character. “Kian. She?—”

“Move.”

We all look up to not only see Kian but realize he brought Arlo.

The two individuals are master doctors when it comes to the black market.

When Warren doesn’t move, I have to intervene.

“Brother, they’ll get the bullet out, sterilize the wound, and give her the meds needed to prevent septic shock.” I remember a bit of my medical background. When I thought I could pull off medical school.

One of many unfulfilled dreams.

Warren lets out a breath, looks at Gemini, and slowly peels himself off her so Kian can get to work.

I know why Arlo is here.

He’s already doing his part—bringing Zander away from the scene to talk it out. To break down that this new possession of ours isn’t going to slip away just like that.

Without Arlo or Kian, things would be more complicated.

More tensed because of Zander’s growing restlessness.

I don’t know how the sight of this woman can make me react, have Domino raging from whatever past they shared, and leave Zander triggered at the idea of her dying from our own game, but these pieces were compromised for a reason.

Her name was placed on our list in disguise for a hidden purpose.

We need to find out why.

“Kian,” Domino grunts in impatience.

“If you’re going to breathe down my neck and be a controlling douche, you can get the fuck out and clean the bodies of the other women you’ve discarded like worthless pieces of shit.”

I know Domino wants to say shit, but he holds his tongue.

Very few people can talk to us any way they like, but Kian has saved our asses quite a few times.

Enough times that he gets immunity from being treated poorly by us.

That doesn’t mean Domino doesn’t try.

“She should pull through,” Kian huffs as he works on wrapping the wound. “I’d suggest we get her back to y’all’sparadise. I have better equipment and medication to support her. I’m not sure if it’ll scar, but I got a few ointments from Cambodia that can prevent that. She looks like someone whose looks matter in our world, so best preserve that the best we can.”

“Will she wake up by tomorrow?” Domino inquires in haste.
