“Should.” Kian doesn’t sound worried about that. “If I can hook her up with an IV, I can give her a cocktail of vitamins. It’ll balance her out. That’s after bloodwork, of course.”

“As long as you’re not injecting her with any sugary shit,” Warren emphasizes. His voice is hardened, just like his facial expression.

“No sugary stuff,” Kian assures. “Why? Afraid she’s gonna get fat or something?”

He says nothing, to which Kian rolls his eyes.

“So which control freak is carrying her?” he inquires. “Because I had arm day today, and I know I’ll drop her if I try it.”

“I’ll do it.”

Kian and Domino are looking at us.

We just had to volunteer at the same time.

Now we’re staring at one another.

“I know you’re working,” I emphasize out of respect. “But she’s our winning candidate. Meaning she’s become our property.”

From the way we’re staring at one another, I know this is going to become a standoff.

I hate submitting to him, but then again, he’s my older brother.

Domino’s and Zander’s family dynamics may be more fucked up than mine, but between Warren and me, is a level of dignity I can’t ignore for so many reasons.

I wouldn’t be living this life without him carving this very path.

“You won’t get a say when the contract is signed. You’re well aware of this, yes?” I offer, to which I’m grateful he responds with the slightest of nods. “Fine.”

I gesture to Gemini.

“Be our guest and continue your duty until then.”

“Duty, my ass,” Domino sneers. “If you’re working, she wouldn’t have walked in here like a crazed fool?—”

It takes my hand outstretching and stopping right before the barrel of Warren’s gun to shut Domino up.

He wouldn’t understand that despite our lengthy list of similarities, Warren isn’t as patient as he projects. I’m the calmer one.Courtesy of my father.Warren just had to take my mother’s short-circuit temper.

He just hides it a lot better.

“You could have been dead at 15:35 when you were doing the final tour of this warehouse with your weak henchmen you call security guards,” Warren reveals. “Question my job when it comes to Miss Prescott again, and I’ll prove exactly why the Prescott Empire hired me in the first place.” He clicks the safety back on while his eyes briefly shift to meet mine. “And even my little brother can’t stop me when I’ve unleashed my wrath.”

He pulls away then and has Gemini in his hold in a heartbeat.

I realize he’s not waiting to be led.

He knows exactly where our cars are parked.

I’m starting to remember why there was always tension between us when we were at home.

He’s better at everything he does. Executions were so flawless that miscalculations are a rarity in our household.

I can assume today’s miscalculation was because he didn’t predict Gemini running out of his car to make it here on time.

She ran through town, getting shot in the fucking leg without realizing it, and knocked down that guard like he was nothing?

Who the fuck is she?
