“Where are we going?” Mariya asks.

“You’re going home,” I tell her. “Nik is out of the hospital and back at the house now. Mom is there, too.”

She stamps her foot. “What the hell? No one tells me anything!”

“I’m telling you right now.”

She waves me off. “What about Luna? Is the mansion safe for her? I don’t want to leave without her.”

I turn to Dr. Jenkins. “You said Luna needs to be seen at a hospital?”

He starts to nod. “I’m concerned about her blood pressure and the lack of response from the medication, so I think?—”

“I don’t need to go to the hospital,” Luna interjects. “Dr. Jenkins told you that I could have even better care at home with the right supplies and money. You have the money, don’t you?”

I snort. “Obviously.”

“So what’s the problem?” She slides closer and runs her hands up my arms. “I want to be at home with you, Yakov. I want us to be all together. A family.”

It sounds too nice. It might be as close to picture perfect as my life will ever be—me, Luna, and the rest of my family under one roof. Soon, the babies will join, too.

But it can’t come to pass quite yet.

“The only reason those gunmen didn’t tear through the front door and charge down here and kill us all is because of you. Because you showed up and saved me. The same way you’ve been saving me since the night we met.” She flashes a watery smile. “I don’t want another secret safehouse. You are my safehouse, Yakov. Being with you is where I feel safe. Being with you is where I want to be.”

She is tugging on every single one of my heart strings. It’s making it very fucking hard to maintain my resolve.

“I already have a staff of nurses working around the clock to take care of Nik, so I’m sure they can look after you, too,” I concede.

Luna bites her lower lip to hide her smile. “Yeah?”

“Yeah, but—” I grip her chin and force her eyes to mine. “—if things get worse or there is any concern at all about your health or the babies?—”

“I’ll go to the hospital without argument,” she finishes. “I’ll check myself in, I swear.”

I press a kiss to her full lips. “Then it’s a deal.”

I turn back to Dr. Jenkins who is still looking paler than usual. Apparently, the good doctor isn’t used to having firearms pointed at his face. “You can return to your rental, but I still want Luna and the babies examined daily.”

He dips his head. “Done. I’ll keep a close eye on her.”

“It won’t matter. Everything is going to be great now that we’ll finally be together.” Luna wraps her arms around my waist and presses her cheek to my ribs.

Luna feels safe with me. She trusts me to take care of her.

That is exactly what I plan to do.

LUNA

I’m home.

Those words circle my mind again and again as the car makes its way up the long drive towards the mansion. It’s all I can think. I’m home.

So much has happened over the last six months, both in this mansion and outside of it. At one point, I would have given anything to get out of this house and back to my normal life. Then I was ripped out of it, kidnapped and locked away, and all I wanted was to get back.

This is my life now. This mansion and these people. Coming back here feels like coming home.
