Page 31 of Corbin's Conflict

The only downside to being at the clubhouse is the fact none of the other women seemed to want me there, but they knew I wasn’t going anywhere. Only one of them spoke to me, and that was Hips. Though, she was welcoming, she wasn’t exactly mean either. I think she had a thing for Corbin. Then again, I think they all did.

Friday night, I found out exactly what those women were there for. I immediately wished to be blind because I did not want to see them in action doing their jobs. It was bad enough hearing it through the walls.

Throughout all of this I’d been experiencing and even enjoying, I didn’t have any more issues, not really, with the whole ordeal that brought me here to begin with. Death hadn’t come to my dreams again, and none of the blood witches had stepped foot in town. If they did, nothing came of them being in the area. It was like a silence descended on the area. It’s been nice, though I worry because it’s not like them to simply become invisible. They’re notorious for being destructive. Destroying what they can.

There are still three weeks until the blood moon, which means anything can happen between then and now.

Another thing that happened was Cyrus came with Big Daddy to speak with his brother about the whole situation with Death and about him being the one who killed their mother.

“Come back to me, Syn,” Corbin’s voice filters through my mind preventing my thoughts from going any further.

Blinking up at him, I find him staring at me knowingly. There’s no masking my thoughts from him. Not when we’re connected as we are. I’ve come to realize the bond between us, the one that marks us as more than fated mates . . . everything we are is on a totally different level. It’s a brilliant, beautiful feeling that leaves me longing for him when he’s not near.

Corbin rolls us until I’m no longer under him but lying over him, one hand in my hair, massaging my scalp, the other strokes along my spine. The intimacy of his touch causes my center to clench around him, earning a growl of approval.

“You know I’m not gonna let anything happen to you, Karsyn,” he murmurs and presses a kiss to the top of my head.

“I know,” I whisper, releasing a shuddered breath. I knew. I’d seen bits and pieces of what we’re facing, but with each decision we make, our future changes. With one wrong breath, the world we live in could become something completely different. It’s what keeps the balance of self-choice and not taking away the power of decision from a person, shifter, or any other supernatural being out there.

I lift enough, wanting to see his eyes, and give him a smile. “Are you busy today, or are you able to spend it with me?” Sage was at Big Daddy’s after spending the night at his place with Jazmine. Corbin told me the girls were spending the day over there and we’d need to go there later to get her along with having dinner. It was a family thing, he explained.

I’d never gone to a family thing. I also didn’t know what it was exactly. I’m still new to all of it, but I’m slowly adjusting.

“We’re spending it right here,” he announces seconds before someone pounds on the door.

“Prez, you need to get out here,” Justice shouts through the door. “You’re gonna need to see this shit.”

“Fuck me,” Corbin remarks, none to happy about being interrupted. “Give me a minute, and I’ll be out,” he shouts, rolling me to my back. A gasp leaves my lips as he pulls out of me. “Get dressed, baby, I’m not leaving you in here alone. I’m keeping you next to me because I just said we’re spending the day right here. I want to be able to carry your ass right back in here after I see what Justice is talking about.”

“I could just stay right here,” I offer, a flicker of something comes to me.

“No, I want you with me,” he announces and gets out of bed, bringing me with him. Gripping my chin, he forces me to meet his gaze. “I’m also not letting you out of my sight if I don’t have to.”

I like that. The fact he doesn’t want me away from him causes flutters in my stomach.“Okay.”

“Good, now, get dressed, baby,” he orders and leans in to press a brief closed-lip kiss to mine.

I nod and quickly do as he says, dressing in another maxi dress, this one similar to the ones Dane bought for me, but it had pockets and was hunter green. I don’t bother with panties. I don’t like the way they feel. But under the bosom of the dress, I put on a dark green bra, one of the bras Corbin picked out.

During our shopping trip, he’d taken me to a lingerie store where more than enough undergarments were purchased. Some of them sexy to the point the thought of them makes me want to blush.I don’t bother with shoes. If we’re going to come right back in here, I wouldn’t need them.Quickly, I run the brush through my long locks before turning to face Corbin again and finding him roaming his gaze over the length of me.

“What?” I ask, glancing downward, inspecting what I’m wearing, not seeing anything wrong.

“Nothing, Syn,” he grunts, steps toward me, takes my hand, and leads me to the door. “Let’s get out of this room before I end up saying fuck everything else and strip that dress off you and fuck you all over again.”

“Well, I wouldn’t have a problem with that,” I blurt and slap a hand to my mouth while staring at him with wide eyes.

Corbin laughs outright at the outburst and pulls me into his arms. “Glad you think that, baby.”Leaning down, he kisses me once more and guides me down the hallway.

Halfway, I pause, my breathing lodges in my throat, and I try to catch my breath. A vision comes to me, and I grip ahold of Corbin as it overtakes me. I hadn’t had one in days. Just the snippets, nothing like this, and it scares me. Blood soaks the ground at my feet. Bodies hang from the trees. Howls of agony fill the air. Malicious laughter fills my ears. In front of me, Corbin’s lifeless body. Sage’s. And . . . oh my god, no.

“Syn, baby, breathe for me,” Corbin growls, yanking me out of the vision.

Tears blur my vision, and my knees weaken beneath me as I try to focus on him. “Did . . . did you see?”

“Yeah, baby, you took me into the vision with you,” he confirms, eyes flashing angrily. “That shit isn’t going to happen. I promise you, Syn. Remember, we’ve got the bond that connects us,” he murmurs for only me to hear. He explained no one else was to know of it.

I nod and bite my bottom lip in an attempt to ease the nerves growing inside me.
