Luca’s cheeks were still pink. “I’ll go show you what other flavors we have.”

I trotted after him and stuffed my face with a lemon blueberry white chocolate muffin next. “Sweet baby Jesus. This has no right being this good.”

Luca’s grin was too cute.

“How long are you stuck here?” I asked.

“Not long. We’re just here to drop off and then head back to the bakery.”

“I wonder if Nicky still needs me or if I can dip out.” I had zero interest in still being here when everyone looking for free food arrived.

“I think she disappeared into the tent over there if you wanted to check.”

“Cool. Be right back.”

I weaved through the rows of chairs and toward the info tent, where Nicky was organizing pamphlets and bottles of water.

“Hey, girly, do you have more work for me or am I all done?”

She squeezed me tightly in a hug. “Thank you so much for helping out. I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to talk too much this morning. Everything is chaos.”

“No worries. I can see you’re busy. It looks like you guys are gonna put on a good event.”

“I hope so. Tony’s been working so hard. Between the election and facility prep, feels like we’ve been running full tilt forever.”

“I don’t doubt that for a second. Have you had a chance to eat yet? Jasper and Luca are setting everything up in the volunteer tent.”

“I could definitely use the boost.”

I dragged her over there, the two of us exchanging a bare-essentials update on each other’s lives. She knew from Allie that I had quit my finance job, and she obviously knew I was going to be opening the studio at the facility. I didn’t have much else to update her on, and I certainly wasn’t going to open my mouth about Luca.

“You never answered if you had more tasks for me,” I said, poking her in the arm while she munched on one of the muffins.

“Sorry. Brain like a sieve today. You’re totally free to go unless you want to take a shift making pancakes.”

“I’m good. But if you guys need help taking down later, you can give me a call.”

She gave me another tight hug. “Thanks, Luna.”

I snuck another lemon blueberry muffin and managed to catch Luca before Jasper ushered him into the vehicle to go back to the bakery. “Thanks for the treat, you two. I might have to swing by the bakery and get some more if Luca is making stock there too.”

“We’ve already got some in the display case,” replied Jasper. “Come by anytime.”

In a fit of boldness, I asked, “How about right now? I’ve been meaning to pop by and check it out anyway.”

“Sure,” Jasper said. “Ride with us or take your car?”

“I’ll take my car. Better to get it out of the parking lot before the horde descends.”

“I’ll send you the address,” Luca said from his spot in the passenger seat.

“See you there.”

I ate my third muffin in the front seat of my car, sitting back to give myself a moment to digest. The only way I was ever going to get to see Luca at work was if I did so where Jasper could see me. But at least it wouldn’t be at all suspicious if I popped by after trying a treat from there.

The bakery was pretty close to where the breakfast was being held, so the drive was short. Luca and Jasper were already hard at work again. A red-lipped beta and a tall, blond alpha worked alongside them.

Luca hopped around to the front of the store to open the door for me. “Hi!” he whispered excitedly.
