Jasper waved before hoisting up a tray and sliding it into the oven. “Be right there.”

The other two also paused in their work and came to look at me curiously from the other side of the counter.

“Everyone, this is Luna. Luna, these two are Yan and Rita, my brilliant second-in-commands. Luna is a friend of Nicky’s,” Jasper explained.

Rita grinned at me. “Come for the view or for the sweets?” she asked.

“A girl can come for both,” I replied. “Hook me up with your favorites for the sweets.”

The four of them absolutely overloaded two boxes of treats for me to take home. Jasper let Luca give me a quick tour of the kitchen before they started back to work, and then I mostly stood at the counter, chatting with them while I worked my way through a croissant. They were a pretty well-rounded group and we discussed the latest movies, trips people had taken, and some of the local politics that we were all now more familiar with than usual with Jasper’s mate running.

“Too bad you don’t have some little café tables in here,” I commented.

“We’ll have some at the second location,” Jasper promised. “The space will be bigger, and there will be a café in the bay next to us that we can coordinate with.”

“Not gonna lie, that sounds amazing. It’s hard to find a café that has great baked stuff. You’ll be blessing the community by giving us both in one spot.”

Luca disappeared into the bathroom, and a moment later my phone buzzed.

Luca:

Any chance you could sneak into my place when I’m done here?

Luna:

I could manage it

If you give me your door code I could sneak in right now and be there when you arrive

The door code immediately followed.

Luna:

Okay

I’m going to head out

See you in a bit

I bid everyone goodbye and thanked them for the treats, which Jasper refused to let me pay for. It was still too early for Stella and the girls to be awake, but I parked out of sight down the street anyway and snuck down into the basement suite.

Luca’s new home smelled like him. It was impressively tidy, and since he hadn’t told me not to, I let myself have a cursory snoop. The receipt from our first date was stuck to the little bulletin board above his desk and he had a neat stack of menus from all the places we’d been together with little stars next to what I always ordered from each.

The dishes I had helped Allie pick out made me smile when I saw them stacked neatly in his cupboards. The furniture was a little sparse, but it fit pretty well in the space. He definitely needed a few items to make it more comfortable, but that could just be my omega preferences.

His bed was calling my name, and I snuggled down in the blankets. It was no nest, but it smelled like Luca.

I woke up with a squawk when Luca dive-bombed into the bed and dragged the blanket over top of both of us.

“You have no idea how excited I was to come home and see you in here.”

I wriggled to the surface, pulling the blanket off my face. “I might have an inkling.”

Luca pulled me close, burying his face in my hair. “You smell so good. I’m so overtired I feel like I’m drunk all over again.”

“You should close your eyes, then.”

Luca let out a soft whine and held onto me tighter. “But if my eyes are closed, I can’t see you.”
