I washed it a few days ago

Sunshine:

Do you mind if I come over and grab some things for the nest?

A well of warmth burst in my chest. She was nesting, and she wanted my things for it.

Luca:

You’re welcome to anything you want

My shift is done at 10 but you have the code if you want to go before that

Sunshine:

You might find me tucked in when you get there

Luca:

Don’t tell me that

I don’t have enough willpower to not leave work

The typing dots appeared and disappeared, reappearing again before she finally replied.

Sunshine:

Start your leave

Luca:

It’s not too early?

Sunshine:

I don’t think so

My heats aren’t super long anyway so I’m not worried about you running out of time

Luca:

Okay, give me a minute

I approached Jasper in his office, where he was sitting with his phone in his hand and his feet up on his break. “Jasper…”

He glanced up at me. “Time to go?”

“Pretty soon, yeah. I’ll finish up what I’m working on first, of course.”

“We can handle it, Luca.”

“It won’t take me long. I’m not leaving you with the giant mess to clean.”

“All right. But you’re free to go once you’re finished. Good luck.”

I rushed through cleaning up my station, got the most recent batch of muffins out of the oven to cool, and let Yan and Rita know I was heading out.

I practically tripped over myself to get back to my basement suite. Luna was curled up in my bed like she had promised, and I climbed in next to her, pride burning fiercely when she snuggled against me. Her purr was instant. Her scent was cranked up to eleven, mango and lemon sweetness saturating every breath.
