“You’re mine now?” she asked quietly.

“All yours,” I promised.

She cuddled in deeper under the blankets, somehow getting even closer to me. “Good.”

“Do you want me to come stay at your place now?”

Luna nodded, her purr pitching higher. “Yes. Make sure you bring anything you need because once you’re there, I’m not letting you out of my sight.” After a stretch of silence broken only by the happy rumble in her chest, she spoke again. “Did you know this will be my first partnered heat?”

“Remind me what you did for all the ones before?”

She gave a tiny shrug. “I sold them. It’ll be nice to have a heat at home instead of at the club.”

I couldn’t stop the flood of images that came into my brain. There was nowhere I had seen at the club that seemed like it would be comfortable for an omega to go through a heat. I supposed it wasn’t that much different than having a professional help her out. “Did you like them there?”

“I didn’t dislike them. My first one bought me my apartment. They pay less for regular heats than they do for the first one, but it’s still great money for the time commitment. Security is really tight for them, but it can get weird. It’s not always easy finding the best match when you’re only choosing between paying customers.”

“I hadn’t thought about that part. Did they take care of you?”

“Well enough, I guess.”

“Am I costing you money?”

Luna snorted. “I’m the one who asked you to be part of my heat. You’re not costing me anything. I’m curious what it’ll be like to have a heat with someone I feel safe with. I’ve never done that before.”

I swallowed hard against the rise of emotion. Heats were about as vulnerable as an omega could get, and I hated the idea that she had never felt fully safe during one. Even if I failed at everything else, at least I could give her that.

“Can we go back to my place?”

“Absolutely. Grab anything you want me to bring. I already have a bag of essentials packed.”

She slowly climbed out of bed, stealing the comforter to drape around herself like a cape while she wandered my suite, collecting bits and pieces and tossing them onto the bed for me to pack up.

Less than an hour later, she was sneaking back to her car with my blanket bundled in her arms while I went upstairs to let Stella know that I would be away. I’d given her warning to let her know I wouldn’t be able to take care of Beans for her until I was back. At least with my rental income she was able to afford a dog-walker in my absence.

Work and my landlord were the easy ones to tell. I had no idea what to tell my family so they wouldn’t worry if they tried to check in. I just had to bite the bullet on that. No way in hell was I going to pull a Nicky in this situation and let anyone worry that I had died because I hadn’t planned ahead well enough for a heat.

I settled on texting Sidney.

Luca:

I’m going to be pretty unreachable for the next week or two

If anyone is looking for me, you can tell them I’m safe but not available

Sidney:

Where are you going?

Luca:

Nowhere

I’ll just be busy

Sidney:

Got it
