“I’m never this needy in preheat. I feel like I’m losing it.”
Luca tucked my hair behind my ears and traced soft patterns down my arm. “I like that you need me. That’s kind of my whole thing, if you haven’t noticed.”
I curled my fingers around his arm. “But I always need you. This is just a million times worse.”
“I know it feels weird, but you don’t have to be embarrassed. I’m kind of in my glory right now, getting to take care of anything you need. Plus I haven’t gotten to spend this much consecutive time with you ever. I like it.”
My purr was ridiculously loud, but with Luca smiling down at me, it was difficult to care about how easy I was to please right now. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to handle it if I’d been like this during previous heats. Sure, it was nice to be in the proximity of the alphas who were going to be fucking me silly, but they didn’t make me feel safe. Luca, and to an extent Auggie, had seen me at some of my lowest points and didn’t seem to mind. What I would’ve given to have had that around growing up, but then I wasn’t sure if I would appreciate it. Safety didn’t feel so important if it was something you’d always had.
“Would you prefer pasta or ice cream?” he asked.
“Are you doing the toddler thing where you don’t give me a choice to say no? I know how that works. I have nieces.”
Luca only smiled down at me. “Answer the question.”
“Ice cream. Then you won’t be gone for too long.”
“Is it the heat that’s making you more honest? I feel like that’s something that would’ve stayed inside your head before this.”
My cheeks warmed. “It might have affected my filter a bit.”
“Well, I like it. I always wonder what’s running around in your brain and now you just tell me.”
I whacked him with a pillow. “Go get the ice cream. Quick like a bunny.”
Luca returned in no time two bowls of rocky road. We polished it off once I had resumed my position in his lap.
“You’re absolutely sure you want to do this with me?” I asked.
“Of course I do. It’s part of being an omega, part of your life, and I’m happy to share it with you.”
I was half asleep and completely blissed out on oxytocin in Luca’s arms when Auggie eventually returned.
“I come bearing gifts,” Auggie announced.
I roused myself enough to see what he deposited on top of the blankets.
“Got the cuffs and collars so you two don’t accidentally bond, picked up some of those muffins anyway because I’m sure the other bakery people do an equally good job, and I got you a knotting attachment. Everyone say, ‘Thank you, Auggie.’”
“Thank you, Auggie,” I parroted, picking up the sturdy inflatable ring. “How does it work? I’ve never actually used one before.”
Auggie tucked two fingers inside the ring and pushed the button on the accompanying remote. It swelled both inward and outward to secure to his fingers and form the artificial knot. “You can use the remote or set it up to use the sensor.”
He switched over to sensor mode, showing Luca the features. In that option, it stayed inflated on the internal ring to be secured.
“With the sensor, it’ll trigger when she comes while you’re wearing it. It’s way fancier than some of the options I’ve played with in the past, and I figure it’s probably better to require as little intervention as possible.”
Luca was red as a beet, listening to Auggie explain the sex toy.
“You should try it out and make sure you can work it before she goes into heat,” Auggie told him. “Both of you got your birth control for this, right?”
Fuck. “This is so much work when the club isn’t handling everything. How am I supposed to plan anything when my brain feels like a bowl of soup?”
Auggie rolled his eyes. “What would you do without me? Let me give those doctors a call to get you dosed up.”
Auggie excused himself to arrange the birth control, and I snuggled back against Luca. “I never thought I would need a babysitter for a heat, but this might as well be my first one for how much of it I’ve ever handled on my own. Heats at the club run like a well-oiled machine.”
“It doesn’t help that this is the first one I’m participating in,” he replied. “I should’ve thought of it too.”
