Fury sat bitter on my tongue. “If you don’t shut your mouth right now, I’ll call the cops on you myself. You’re lucky you still have a job.”

“Oh, fuck off. No one’s going to take Luna seriously.” He got toe to toe with me, trying to intimidate me, but I knew he was a sad, shitty excuse for a human being. I wasn’t afraid of him.

“I don’t think you want to test that theory. If you don’t leave her alone, I can make myself a big fucking problem for you.”

Kevin rolled his eyes, turned on his heel, and stalked away without another word.

Luna and Allie stepped off the elevator and they crossed paths with Kevin, both women freezing like deer in headlights. Allie unfroze first and waved to me. She trotted over to me with Luna in tow, and I took the opportunity to give them both a quick hug.

“Ready to eat?” I asked, not wanting to bring up Kevin in front of Allie, unsure what all she knew.

“So ready,” Luna piped up. “I’m starving.”

I offered a crooked elbow to each of them, and both of them looped their arms through mine with a smile. It was easy to disguise the casual intimacy when Allie was there too. She was a pretty huggy person—most omegas were, I imagined—so it wasn’t out of the ordinary at all.

The two of them chatted in the back seat while I drove, and we packed together at a small table at the restaurant. I didn’t like that Luna was in the same building with Kevin, and this was as much an excuse to see her as it was to make sure he couldn’t get to her.

“Does Luca know about Kevin?” Allie asked.

Luna shook her head, a blatant lie.

“What about Kevin? The asshole from the lobby?” I leaned into the falsehood that I hadn’t a clue what she was talking about.

Luna gave me a sanitized rundown of the events and I acted appropriately shocked. At least this way we were on fairly equal informational footing, and Luna hadn’t kept things in their entirety from Allie.

I knew she was worried about their friendship degrading if she left her finance job, but I didn’t believe it for a second. From the moment I had met Luna, it was pretty obvious Allie loved her to bits. That wouldn’t change just because things were a little more inconvenient.

“Luna’s staying with us this week,” Allie told me. “Gives her some time to get her apartment sorted and for the new security measures to be put in.”

“That sounds perfect. You can get some quality girl time in.”

I kept expecting Luna to give me some sort of look, but she rolled with everything. Maybe she was even more exhausted than I’d realized.

“Right?” Allie beamed. “We should all have dinner while we’re having our extended sleepover. We could make enough room for Nicky and her pack to come. Do you think Mama Marino would be upset if all her babies had dinner together without her?”

I shrugged. “Hard to say. She does love being included, but sometimes it’s nice to have no parents.”

“You’re so correct. Plus, she gets us practically every week.”

“She’d have you every day if she had a choice in the matter,” I told Allie.

Her laugh was bright and sweet, her smile infectious and spreading to Luna and me. “I don’t doubt that for a second. How about Friday night before you go to work, Loons?”

“I can make it happen,” Luna replied.

“I have some baking practice with Jasper, but I can reschedule.”

“Cool. And did we want it to be a big thing with the pack or would we prefer a tiny, quiet dinner with just the four of us?”

“I vote we reach out to Nicky and see if they’re busy or free. That can decide for us,” I suggested.

We chatted through the rest of lunch and I reluctantly took Luna and Allie back to the office. I didn’t get to kiss Luna goodbye, but I could save that for later.

I didn’t have work tonight, but I did have some baking assignments I needed to get cracking on. While my brain had been struggling with some of the academic portion, I was enjoying the hands-on. The professor had been letting me do a lot of verbal answers, opting to quiz me while I worked since my brain went into meltdown mode whenever I had to write an exam. I wasn’t sure what exactly made it work, but it did, and I was grateful I had a teacher willing to accommodate that.

I was wrist deep in sourdough when Mom appeared next to me. “How was your day, honey?”

“It was good. I took Allie and Luna to lunch.”
