Page 32 of Risking it All

William cracked an eye open, a knowing look there as he offered. “Do you want to shower?”

Immediately, I frowned. “No, not particularly. I don’t want to move away yet.”

He chuckled, planting a tired, sloppy kiss against my head. “I never said I couldn’t be there with you, if you wanted.”

Oh, well that did change things, didn’t it?

The sweat really was starting to get irritating and if we took a shower together, I’d get to lather him with soap and watch the bubbles slide off…

Decision made, I nodded. “Okay.”

He hummed, amusement clear as he hefted himself off the bed. I stayed for just another minute, watching as that well-sculpted behind sauntered around the room. When he stopped by the door, raising a brow in question, I finally got up and followed.

I definitely hadn’t seen any of this coming today, but I wouldn’t complain.

Chapter 11

After the shower which had ended in yet another, less heated exploration of one another, we flopped back onto the bed. He faced me, eyes clear and open like a book as he traced a finger over one of the bruises on my stomach.

“How are you feeling?” He asked, a twinge of concern bare in his tone.

I shrugged, inching closer and yawning. “Sore, but nothing unbearable. I definitely haven’t been thinking about it over the past hour or so.”

He snorted, tipping his head in agreement. “Good to know an easy way to distract you.”

Rolling to nuzzle further into his neck, I hummed. “You’ve always been able to. The addition of a relationship and all the fun things that come with it will only increase that.”

The corner of his lips pulled up and he curled around me, warmth all but pouring off him like a furnace. “Is that so?”

There was something light in his tone and I raised a brow, waiting to see where he was going with this.

When he continued, it was all I could do not to curl into a hole and die from embarrassment.

“Your brother mentioned that you’d had a thing for me since we were kids; care to elaborate on that?”

The charming grin he usually saved for others came through and I groaned, hiding against his chest as heat burned across my cheeks.

“I’m going to maim him for telling you that,” I said, already plotting out Devin’s demise. He may have played a big part in getting us together, but did he have to tell William that bit of information?

What am I thinking? Of course he did, it was his job as pest older brother, and he’d never grow out of it. Dragging a hand down my face, I watched as William laughed, his arm tucking me closer as if on instinct.

From my new position pressed securely to his chest, I felt every vibration as he calmed down, his smile fading from amusement to affection.

“Take it easy on him. He had to walk me through that mess, and I’m sure he fantasized about drowning me every step of the way.”

I sighed, grumbling under my breath. “That doesn’t excuse him spilling the one thing I didn’t want you knowing.”

He shifted until we were nose to nose, curiosity lighting his eyes now as he hummed. “Why didn’t you want me to know that? It’s not groundbreaking or anything. Lots of girls liked me.”

The twinge of arrogance made me roll my eyes, and I smacked him with a pillow. “That right there is why. You don’t need the ego boost.”

He laughed again, pulling the pillow away and shrugging. “I’m sure you’ll enjoy popping my head if it gets too big.”

Then he relaxed, all but squishing me into the sheets. “Should we talk more about this? It feels like we rushed into it.” He said, his tone uncertain.

Considering we’d all but lunged into bed with only the basics of a conversation first, I’d say he wasn’t wrong on that. Nudging him over onto his back, I curled up against his chest so I could see him better.

Once comfortable, I plopped my head on my folded arms and hummed. “You’re right. We did move a bit quicker than I usually would, but considering we’ve been circling each other for a bit now, I can’t say I’m surprised.”
