He squeezes me to him. "Nah, Freckles, you still need to go. Momma wants forgiveness for how she treated you. This lunch is well overdue for you and our girl, who loves her Gammy."

I sigh and nod, knowing he's right. I remark, "Phil's been asking why his name isn't on your chest. I told him it's because you love me more, but he wouldn't accept that answer."

He laughs and shakes his head before turning me in his arms. Mine go around his waist, my hands splayed out on his back while he cups my cheeks, nothing but love shining in his eyes.

He states, "Because Cannon would kill me."

I laugh at his words before his lips touch mine in a gentle kiss, his lip ring sending tingles through my body.

He murmurs, "Stop stressing about seeing my momma. You look beautiful."

I nod before going to my tiptoes, kissing him again, feeling his lips curve into a smile against mine as I hum at how content I feel right now. I never want this feeling to disappear.

I'm sitting at a booth in a local cafe down the street from Baked Goods an hour later, waiting for Rose. Jonny forced me out of the house, basically telling me to pull up my big girl panties, and go play nice. In return, he’’ take said big girl panties off later. That promise instantly made me wet, which made him smile as he left our room to attend a tea party with April. Jackass.

God, I love that man.

I take a sip of the water Violet drops off for me. She was a few years ahead of me in school, and works at Sunny View Care Home and here, while also attending college for her nursing degree.

I let my mind wander, thinking of how Jonny will love on my body later, when the café door opens, and I swallow hard seeing Rose walk in. Her brown hair is down and wavy, her blouse and slacks making me feel self-conscious about my dress, thinking maybe I didn't dress up enough. Her cut is the only thing calming my anxiety.

Her brown eyes make contact with mine, and she smiles before walking over.

Crap—do I stand and hug her?

Do I smile and stay seated?

Double crap.

I swallow hard and decide to stand, making her smile widen before she hugs me, squeezing me tightly like the first time we met before pulling back.

"How are you, darling?" she asks softly.

I clear my throat as we sit. "I'm doing good, thank you. You?"

That was pleasant enough, right?

She smiles. "Happy now that we're meeting up."

I give her smile as Violet comes over, smiling wide seeing Rose. Violet knows the history between Rose and I, and she winks, happy that I’m giving Rose a chance.

I shake my head as Rose grins at Violet. "My oh my, if it isn't my favorite barista and caregiver. How's Betty doing, sweet girl?"

Violet smiles, her caramel eyes lighting up. "She's doing really good, Rose."

Rose smiles. "Good, and uh, how's it going with Tats?"

I clear my throat and take a sip of my water to stop my laughter, making Rose waggle her brows at me as Violet goes bright red. She's had a crush on Tats for a while now. He did flirt with her for a while until she went cold on him after she caught him screwing another assistant at the home and decided not to go there, realizing he was a manwhore. His gran, Betty, confirmed that her grandson was the club's biggest player. Heck, I've seen three women walk out of his room in the past.

That doesn't stop Tats from popping into the cafe to see her, and I have heard some rumors from my amazing man that they may have finally gotten together.

Violet clears her throat. "Uh, I uh, I don't know, I haven't seen him much. Word has it he's been seeing a girl or two, and I, uh, have been dating."

Knowing she's lying, I give her a smirk, making her side eye me as she places a glass of water in front of Rose.

She mutters, "I'll, uh, give you both a moment before taking your order."

She turns and rushes to the counter like her ass is on fire.
