It makes me laugh and I turn to Adonis and smile. “Come and meet Harrison, babe. He won’t be happy until we have told him everything.”

“Spare me the fucking details, Mel.”

Harrison rolls his eyes and holds out his hand to Adonis and then winces as he shakes it.

“I’m pleased to meet you.” Adonis says in his deep husky voice and then Laura steps forward and grins.

“Adonis.” She raises her eyes. “I never thought I’d see the day, but I am so happy for you both.”

She steps forward and hugs him hard and whispers something in his ear that makes him laugh softly.

Then she turns to me and says with a broad smile. “Adonis is a good man, one of the best. I am so happy for you both.”

Now the introductions have been made and my heart reassured, I say anxiously, “How’s mom?”

Troy grins and steps aside.

“Why don’t you ask her yourself?”

I blink the tears away when a small solitary figure heads out into the sunshine and smiles sweetly, the sparkle in her eyes revealing the emotion she is trying hard to contain.

“Melissa, we have so much to catch up on, darling. I’ve missed you so much.”

She moves closer and as I take her in my arms, I have everything I want and everyone I love, standing before and around me.

I wanted a wild adventure and got way more than I bargained for, but I wouldn’t change a single decision I made because it brought me to this place with the people I love. Now my future is decided, I no longer have the need to search for it in dark shadows.

I turn and hold out my hand to Adonis. “Let’s go inside. We have a lot to catch up on.”

EPILOGUE

MIKHAIL

MADEIRA ISLAND

When Alexei told me of Don Vieris request, I saw my chance. Madeira island has been a long time coming and several refused invitations later, I am heading there with more than one specific aim in mind. Revenge.

Melissa is a worthy companion. Perfect in fact. She plays her part beautifully and I am assured of the success of our mission.

I needed someone who appeared pure, innocent, and scared shitless and she fits the description perfectly.

Now, as we wait while Hosea carries out his sick shit, I stare at the woman we have come to liberate. She appears to have switched off from life and I suppose it’s the only way she can get through this nightmare. I know I do sick shit, too much if I’m honest, but kidnapping women, spraying them with paint and tying them to a crucifix is a step too far even for me.

Melissa is shit scared beside me. She is trying so hard to be brave and I’m not the man to offer reassurances. If she was my woman, she wouldn’t have been given the choice. There is no way in hell I would allow it. Not that I have a woman I call my own. There has never been only one woman for me, and it appears that runs in our family which is the reason I’m here at all.

I have a secret.

One I’m keeping to myself until I check it out. Even my brothers don’t know and that is unusual. We work as a team. The Romanovs. Everything we do involves a fucking family conference because we trust no one but blood. That is why I’m here. Checking out something that could lead nowhere but could lead to the identity of my father’s murderer.

When Alexei asked me to help his girlfriend’s family, it suited my purpose, and as Hosea steps forward and makes his choice, I surrender my companion knowing we have taken steps to protect her.

She shivers as I push her forward and I maintain a granite expression of my own. I don’t catch her eye; Hosea will be watching. He knows my companion will have been briefed on the evening schedule. Maybe that’s why most of the women here are paid whores. Normal women would be terrified about what they are expected to do tonight.

On the hour, every hour, the women remain in their allocated room and are joined by a different partner.

I’m not interested in that.
