Page 61 of Damaged Gods

“Help?” He appears a little shocked at that, and I nod. “Serena told me about Phoebe and what happened, and we came up with a plan to help.”

His eyes darken and a flicker of anger passes across his face as he hisses, “She has no right to involve you. You should have returned home where you are safe.”

“What? And give up on my adventure so soon.”

He shakes his head as I shrug.

“You don’t get to have all the fun, you know.”

I stare past his huge body at a man who is definitely his father. He is standing beside Adonis, who is scowling at his brother, and it appears his father finds the whole scene amusing, judging by the smirk on his face as he steps forward.

“Melissa Remington. Welcome to Greece.”

He has a twinkle in his eye that I wasn’t expecting, and I can definitely see why Chloe likes him. He is a silver fox with twinkling blue eyes and his body rivals his sons as he stands in a t-shirt that is almost giving up on him. Tribal ink decorates his arms, and his sexy smile tells of a million broken hearts in its path. Fuck me, this family really are damaged gods as Chloe said.

He nods toward a comfortable seat at the table.

“Come. It’s not often we welcome guests; you must forgive us if we’re a little rusty.”

He snaps his fingers, and a young woman appears, and he rattles something off in Greek and she nods and heads off at speed.

“You must be hungry. I have ordered lunch.”

“We ate on the plane.” Adonis says gruffly, and Dimitri just waves his hands as if it’s no consequence.

“No, Adonis, you did not eat real food. That food on board was just the starter. Now for the main course.”

As I drop into probably the most comfortable seat I have ever sat in, Dimitri sits beside me, and Apollo takes the other one. Adonis drops into one opposite and from the frown on his face, he’s angry about something.

I don’t miss the look his father and brother share and it’s almost as if his anger amuses them.

Dimitri pours me a glass of wine and says firmly, “Apollo has told me of your visit to Serenita. How are my old friends Don Vieri and Ariana?”

“Very well.” I sip the cool wine and love how it slides through my body like fresh falling rain.

“They send their respects.”

He nods. “We are old friends. The best of friends and our families are bound by a tight bond.”

He studies me with an inquisitive smile.

“I understand your brother seeks to marry Laura.”

“Marry?” It makes me smile. “I wasn’t aware of that, but I can see why.”

“What about you, Melissa? Is there someone waiting for you in America who will be anxious about where you are?”

“No.” I shake my head and smile sadly. “Nobody at all, except for my mom and brother. There is no one else looking out for me.”

He shakes his head. “I don’t believe that for a second. What is it with American boys? They are blind, obviously.”

“Obviously.” I grin as I take another sip of my wine and decide that Dimitri Constantine is a rogue. A lovable one at that, because the burning interest in his eyes is obvious. In fact, I can tell why Chloe is smitten with them all. Just sitting among all three of them is making my heart beat erratically. Dimitri is rakish, Apollo sweet, and Adonis is obviously the brooding silent type. Just how I like them, and I can almost touch the tension that is growing between us.

He says nothing and merely sips his wine with a frown on his face, causing Dimitri to say, “What’s the matter, Adonis? Are you not happy to be home?”

Apollo laughs softly as Adonis growls, “Of course, but we have business to attend to.”

I sense the tension mount as they share a look and as the young girl comes back with the food, it provides a welcome distraction.
