I notice Apollo heading back and for some reason I’m happy about that and I try to tell myself it’s not because he’s left Melissa.

I’m still dealing with my reaction to her. I can’t even think straight when she’s around and knowing she is nearby messes with my mind.

I stare at my brother for any sign of what happened between them, but he merely flops down on the seat beside me and reaches for a cold beer.

“What’s the plan?” I ask and my father shrugs.

“We wait. When the invitation is secured, we take up our positions.”

“Which are?” Apollo asks and dad replies gruffly.

“We surround the island with our men. A boat will be available and a helicopter on standby. The Vieris will work alongside our own guards, and we will do what is necessary to bring Phoebe home, if indeed she is there.”

“Is Seb aware?” I refer to Phoebe’s father, and he nods.

“He is informed of every development and is organizing things at our end.”

I sense the tension surrounding my brother and worry about him. I have never seen him lose his shit like he did when Phoebe disappeared. Ever since then, he is a controlled machine going through the motions, but he is hurting and has been for some time now.

Like me, he deals with it in a cold way. We give nothing away and let nobody in because it’s easier. Sex is our release, a physical act only and yet something about our guest has me questioning that. More than anything, I want to know the situation with my brother.

I get my chance when dad stands and says casually, “I’m heading off to check on business.”

It leaves us together and Apollo groans as he opens another can and tosses one at me.

“I hate this shit.”

“Then don’t drink it.”

He rolls his eyes. “So, you’re a funny man now.”

His gaze passes me and a gleam lights his eyes and as I turn in the direction, my heart jumps a kilometer when I see Melissa dressed in nothing but a bikini, draping a towel over one of the white sun loungers by the pool.

I hate that we both openly stare at a woman who could grace any swimwear campaign. Her hair has been piled on top of her head and her white bikini clings to a body I physically ache to explore.

I stare in wonder as she hides behind large shades and begins to apply sunscreen, and Apollo groans beside me and whispers, “Fuck my life. That’s a missed opportunity if ever I saw one.”

“Shut your filthy mouth.” I snap, causing him to stare at me with an amused grin.

“I see.”

“You see nothing.” I turn away and feign indifference, but inside I am raging. Just knowing Apollo has laid his filthy lips on that goddess is something I don’t want to dwell on for too long. It’s never mattered before, but it fucking does now, and I am uncharacteristically antsy as I contemplate what that would be like. I change the subject quickly for my own sanity and growl, “Chloe told Melissa she loved us. What are we going to do about that?”

Apollo raises his eyes.

“She said what?”

He shakes his head. “Fuck. That’s not good.”

“I thought she knew the score.” I moan, and Apollo leans back and sighs. “That’s inconvenient. She was a good fuck and up for anything. Why does emotion get in the way of a perfectly good arrangement?”

He peers past me, and I realize he is ogling Melissa and I shift slightly to block his view, causing him to raise his eyes.

“What’s up bro? Are you catching feelings for our delightful guest?”

“Fuck you.” I flip him the bird and he chuckles softly.

“What about you?” I enquire, knowing I will probably hate the answer, and he shrugs. “If I wasn’t in love with Phoebe, I wouldn’t be talking to you right now. She’s a sweet, attractive woman and I would break my own rule just for a night with her.”
