I’m not going to lie, I’m a little disappointed in his lack of enthusiasm about it. “You’re not flipping out about how soon it is and the travel?”

“The way I see it, you’ve been planning this day since I’ve known you. I’m surprised you guys aren’t getting married today, for fuck’s sake.” He shrugs. “As for the travel, that’s what I have a little nest egg for.”

I can’t help but laugh at his response because he’s not totally wrong. “Alright, well I’ll let you know the details once I get everything back from the travel agent.”

Frankie chuckles to himself. “I knew you weren’t capable of planning something like this on your own.”

Subject: Brooks Itinerary – Tuscany, Italy

Hi Joey,

Please see the attached itinerary for your trip to Italy next month. Everything should be as we discussed, but if you need to make any changes before I finalize the details, please reply back and let me know! Congratulations again on your upcoming wedding!

Regards,

Holly

I’ve just pulled up the email on my phone when Kelsey walks through the door. She looks absolutely perfect in her casual outfit of dark blue jeans and a light gray scoop-neck sweater. Her hair is down in waves, falling loosely over her shoulders. I wonder if my heart will ever stop skipping a beat at the sight of her coming home to me. I wouldn’t complain if it didn’t.

“Perfect timing, Angel — come here. I need your input on something.” I pat the couch cushion next to me.

“What happened to ‘trust me, I’ll take care of everything?’” she smirks as she makes her way over to me.

”I am taking care of everything, but I’d still like to make sure it’s what you want.”

“You know what?” She shakes her head before deciding not to sit down. “I want to be surprised. I trust you, Joey. I trust that you know me well enough to know what I’ll like and what I won’t.”

I don’t think I could have imagined a more perfect woman if I tried. For her to relinquish control of a situation and leave it completely in my hands says more than the words she just spoke to me. I turn my phone screen off to prevent her from seeing the itinerary, and pull her down into my lap.

“I can’t wait to marry you.” I grip her chin and kiss her gently. “Do you have any idea how amazing you are?”

“Says the man who is making the dreams that I didn’t even know I had come true.”

Her eyes sparkle like emeralds as she smiles at me. She doesn’t even realize how much that means to me. For as long as I can remember, she has been my dream.

Chapter 59

I’m standing in our guest room, staring at my wedding dress hanging on the closet door. The fact that I managed to find a dress that was exactly my size and didn’t need many alterations is a miracle. I’d been storing it at Savannah’s house since I got it because I didn’t want Joey sneaking a peek at it before the wedding.

I can’t believe that this time two days from now, I’ll be standing in front of Joey, wearing this dress and committing the rest of my life to him. He is going to lose his mind when he sees me in it. I can still remember the look on my mom and Savannah’s faces when I emerged from the dressing room in it last month. My mom immediately had tears in her eyes when she saw the way the mermaid-style dress hugged my body perfectly. The sweetheart neckline plunges into a lace bodice, with a trail of lace floral appliques running down the front and back. When I saw it on the rack, it took my breath away.

I panic slightly when I hear the front door close, and very quickly zip up the garment bag. I’ve been so hell bent on keeping this dress a surprise, I can’t have him accidentally see it now.

“Kels? You all packed and ready to go?” Joey calls as he walks toward the guest room.

“Yep, I’m pretty sure I’ve got everything I need.” I mentally run through my checklist out loud. “Passport is in my purse, tickets are on your phone. If you wouldn’t mind grabbing my suitcases, I’ll get my dress.”

“Or I can grab your dress.” He winks at me mischievously and wiggles his eyebrows.

I cast him a death glare before cracking a smile. “Nice try, you’re not seeing it until the ceremony. You only get to see it for the first time once, and I want it to be magical.”

He crosses the room and pulls me into his arms. “I can promise you, Angel — magical doesn’t even begin to describe the wedding I have planned.”

A nervous excitement fills my stomach at the idea of how much thought and planning he put into this trip. He lived up to his word — all I had to do was get my wedding dress and my passport. He took care of everything else.

“I love you, Joey Brooks,” I whisper. “Thank you for planning this all for us.”

“You know I’d do anything for you, Kels. And I love you, too. Forever and ever.”
