“We’re good,” I said, nervous to talk about Talon in front of his brother.

Sarah raised a brow. “That’s it?”

“We have a good relationship. We work well together.” Behind closed doors and even sometimes at the shop, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. But Sarah and Knox didn’t need to know that.

We were practically living together. I was free to come and go as I pleased. I ordered groceries and cooked. It was all very domestic. But I couldn’t forget it was more convenient than anything. “My lease will be up soon, and Talon’s been clear about wanting me to move in.”

“And?”

I shrugged as we moved around the room where I’d set up a few different options for centerpieces with Sophie, the florist in town. There was a wreath decorated with white roses and pink hearts and a vase with tall white flowers and hearts floating in the water.

“All of these are amazing.”

“I think you should do white centerpieces and hearts randomly placed on the table.” I showed her the effect, and Sarah’s eyes widened. “That’s it. It’s perfect.”

“It’s simple and clean.”

Knox excused himself to take a phone call.

“Combined with the hearts in the windows, it will be the exact look I was going for.” Sarah turned to face me. “But you didn’t answer me.”

“You asked about me wanting to move in with Talon. I’m scared that something will happen to ruin everything. That I’ll get scared and push him away.”

Sarah nodded. “You’re keeping the apartment as an escape hatch.”

“I’ll have options if something happens.”

“But you’re the one in control of your emotions and actions. There’s no reason to think something will threaten that.”

“I don’t know.” We hadn’t planned on the baby, and look how that turned out.

Sarah shook her head. “Your past is not your future. You have to trust in your feelings for him and take the leap.”

“You weren’t concerned that Addy would get attached to Knox, and then you’d break up?” I asked, sneaking a glance at Knox, who was still on the phone.

“Of course, I was. But over time, he showed me he was here to stay.”

I could choose to work on our relationship and stay. “I love him.”

“That’s the basis for everything. You already know you’re good together. Now you just have to prove you can weather anything that comes up.”

I couldn’t even imagine what that could be.

“I have faith in you,” Sarah said as she hugged me.

Knox moved over to us, tucking his phone into his pocket. “What did I miss?”

“We were thinking about arranging the hearts on the table like this with the vase of white flowers,” Sarah said.

Knox looked at me. “If Sarah loves it—”

Sarah squeezed his arm. “I want you to love it, too. It’s your wedding.”

“I love it,” Knox said with eyes only for her. “And I can’t wait to marry you and to be a family.”

Feeling like I was interrupting something personal, I went outside to the porch where I sat on one of the rockers.

A car pulled up a few seconds later, and a man with sandy blond hair got out. “Holly?”
