“We were inseparable at one time. I remember everything about you.” How she felt in my arms, how her nipples pebbled when I sucked on them, the way her mouth dropped open when she orgasmed.

Holly blushed. “I guess there’s something to be said for knowing someone that well.”

I couldn’t imagine ever being with anyone else. I’d tried over the years to have a connection similar to what I had with Holly, and nothing had ever come close.

Chapter 7

Holly

I couldn’t believe I was standing in Talon’s kitchen drinking coffee. His cabin was gorgeous, with wood beams, stonework, and open space. There weren’t any family photos on the wall or books on the shelves. The area was clean of any debris, telling me he didn’t use it often, and the fridge only held a few items: milk, a carton of eggs, and maybe lunch meat. “You don’t spend much time here?”

“If I’m hungry, I’ll eat a frozen meal or grab something from the main house.”

“You haven’t been to many of the family dinners.” I wondered if that was because he wanted to avoid me or if he didn’t attend them.

“I like to visit when it’s just me and Mom. We have good conversations, and the family events can be loud and chaotic.”

I smiled wryly. “I don’t blame you. I’m used to a family of two.”

His expression was one of genuine understanding. We’d shared everything back then, our family history, our struggles, and our triumphs.

“Do you normally bother putting up a tree?” I asked him, finding it difficult to believe that he would, given how sparse the décor was.

“I’ve never put up a tree.”

“I’d say that’s hard to believe since you live on a Christmas tree farm, but after seeing your place, I can see why.” He was focused more on work than his home.

“Maybe you can help me with that. You have an eye for design.”

I arched a brow. “So do you.”

“Only when it comes to lights. I wouldn’t know where to begin with those shelves. There’s so many of them, I get overwhelmed.” He gestured at the mostly barren bookshelves.

“You should frame the magazines you were featured in. Maybe get some coffee table-style books about design and architecture. That would look nice on the table in front of the couch.”

“See? You already have better ideas than me.”

I wasn’t sure if he really wanted to make some improvements or if it was a reason for us to hang out. I was enjoying this time together, so I wasn’t going to question his motives.

When we’d finished our coffees, I felt more awake.

“You ready to find a tree?” Talon asked with a sparkle in his eyes.

Excitement flowed through me. “I can’t wait.”

I let Talon usher me into his truck, and he drove me to a field that didn’t seem to have any signs directing customers there. “Is this field slated to be cut this year?”

“This is the lot we use for family.”

“How did I not know that you have a field just for family?”

“It’s kind of a new thing. There are so many of us, and more of us are putting up trees.”

“It ensures you get good trees.”

“The rest of the family chose their trees the night that Sebastian moved into his cabin. I helped but didn’t feel the need to cut one for myself.”

“Not until now?”
