“Kade Wilson. I need to see your boss.” He continues to look me over. “Urgently.”

I look at the clock on the wall; it's eight o’clock. It's unlike Roman to be late. He’s normally in by now.

“Do you have an appointment?” I ask him as I take my place at my desk.

“I don’t need one.”

“I see.” I raise a brow as I try to hide the fact, I’m frantically texting Roman, hiding my phone under the desk. He doesn’t immediately reply like usual. It’s extremely out of character, and to be honest, I’m starting to get worried. Since his father’s heart attack, a week ago, he’s been working around the clock.

“Can I get you a coffee while you wait? I’m sure he won’t be too long,” I say as nicely and calmly as possible. This man, whoever the hell he is, has a don’t fuck with me vibe that I’m not about to test.

“No,” he replies rudely as he looks at his watch.

I make myself look busy as Kade sits on the sofa staring at me. Each minute that goes by without Roman here, I become more convinced this man in front of me is going to eat me alive. Frantically, I check for a file for him, but we have none. So, I Google him, but find nothing. Not a damn thing. No social media; no criminal records. This man is a ghost, which does nothing to make me feel any better.

The glass door open, and in waltzes Roman.

“Sorry I’m late. Come right in,” he says to Kade, walking straight past me, bypassing even acknowledging me. Rude! I watch him enter his office and close the door, although not before I notice his dishevelled look. His suit is as impeccable as always, but his eyes are traced with dark lines of exhaustion, his hair has not been groomed to perfection, and the stubble on his cheek is more than a day old. This is not the well-put-together man I see every day in the office.

Roman has now been in his office with Kade for over an hour. I have had no messages, no email requests, and found nothing to cause interruption to his meeting, and I’m nearly going crazy wanting to know what the hell is going on. Kade is clearly not a client. So, what is his business with Roman, and why the hell do I care?

I figure while Roman is busy and not needing me, I’ll go down to the accounts department and get the documents I need signed. The elevator chimes, and the doors open. I swallow in all the air I can as Liam Judge steps out, glaring at me like I’m gum on the bottom of his shoe.

“Good morning, Sir,” I say, acting as politely as possible.

“For some,” he grunts back.

I ignore his rudeness and step into the elevator, pressing the button for the accounts floor. The doors begin to close, but just before they fully shut, Liam steps back in.

“Forget something?” I smile, but inside I’m shitting myself. The two times I’ve been in Liam's presence, he’s been a rude and arrogant prick, and judging from the look he is giving me now, the third time will not be any different.

“Yes, I did, actually,” he says, grinning at me. “I’ve been wanting to get you alone to speak with you.” He takes a step towards me, and the air around me immediately goes thick.

I step backward, my shoulders hitting the mirrored wall of the elevator.

Liam cocks his head to the side, grinning arrogantly. “Are you scared of me, little mouse?”

“No.” I straighten my shoulders. “You're just a little too close to me, for my liking.” I cringe at his pet name for me.

He steps closer, placing his hands over my shoulders on the wall, caging me in. “Oh really?” He lowers his head as he breathes in my face. “Yet you are more than willing to spread your legs for my brother.”

“Excuse me?” I defend. “Mr. Judge. You are completely out of line, and I will ask you to step away from me.” I try to stand taller, more assertive, but Liam is tall, and although not as toned as Roman, he’s intimidating, nonetheless. I’m not certain I could fight him off.

The elevator chimes, indicating its doors are about to open. Liam releases his hands off the wall, leans back, and slams the door closed button, then the emergency stop button.

“What are you doing?” I gasp, moving towards the door.

“I’m not finished with you.” Liam extends his hand out, bruising my shoulder as he pushes me into the side wall, crushing me with his weight.

“Roman will not be happy about this,” I say pathetically, using Roman once again as a weapon, just like I did with that cop, Marshall.

“Roman just wants you for your pussy, nothing more, little mouse. So, don’t for a second think you mean anything more to him. I’m his brother, and blood is thicker than water.”

“What do you want from me? As Roman told you, I’m his assistant, nothing more. So, let go of me.”

Liam laughs a big belly laugh. “Roman has a long track record with his assistants. Don’t fool yourself, sweetheart. He’s after one thing from you, and he won’t stop until he gets it. Then when he does, he’ll wipe his hands of you just like the rest of them.”

“Let me go.” I grit through my teeth, trying to push him off me. “You don’t know anything about me.”
