“Very.” I narrow my eyes at him in challenge, because I am done fucking around.

“You wouldn’t dare.” His demeanor changes as he realizes that I am very serious, because I have a lot to lose.

I fix my gaze on Rausch, glaring back at him. “Try me.”

Alistair makes a strangled noise behind me that I ignore.

“Isn’t it convenient that we’re in Las Vegas,” I taunt him. “We could get married today, right baby?” I dig my fingers into her side, and she returns the favor by digging her heel into the top of my bare foot.

Fuck!

Rausch’s eyes narrow. “This is beneath you, Darren. All these years I thought he’s gonna wake up one day, figure his shit out. Especially now, with your parents gone.” I can see the deep lines in his brow, his grief hidden somewhere behind his anger towards me.

“This is me figuring my shit out.” I gesture toward Evangeline.

Rausch runs a hand over his jaw and down his chin, looking between Evangeline and me.

“I would say that the two of you deserve each other, but then I’d feel sorry for her.” His eyes roam over Evangeline.

I feel her straighten next to me. “You don’t have to feel sorry for me,” she speaks up. “Darren here is a great lay, and from what I gather, he’s loaded – or at least he’s gonna be. What’s not to like?”

The look on Rausch’s face makes me want to die with laughter, and I have to press a fist to my mouth in order to contain it.

“I’m not fucking around anymore, Darren. I want you at the airport in an hour! And I want you to go back to whatever street corner you came from.”

“You shouldn’t talk to the future mother of my children that way!” I call after him as the elevator doors close with him in it.

Evangeline shakes me loose, and I lift my foot to inspect it. “Jesus, is there a fucking hole?”

She stands with her arms crossed over her chest and a haughty expression gracing her face. “If there is one, you deserved it. What the fuck is wrong with you?”

I narrow my eyes at her, but then I hear Alistair’s muffled laughter from behind me and I whirl around.

“I was going to say I’m sorry I threw you out last night, but…”

“I deserved it.”

“Where did you sleep?” I ask sheepishly.

“On the bench outside the elevator banks, until Rausch found me,” he explains. “Not something I recommend waking up to.” He gives a half smile, and I imagine that to be true.

With Rausch gone, I feel like I can finally breathe.

“This is all very touching, but I should get going,” Evangeline interrupts, heading towards the elevator.

“I propose, and you’re leaving?” I ask, half teasing.

She turns to face me, and I can see her nipples through the thin material of her dress. But that’s not what threatens to get me hard again – it’s that defiant little smirk of hers. “You must still be drunk,” she says and then forcefully hits the button to the elevator.

“But you said I was a great fuck, and baby, that was with a hell of a hangover. Just imagine when I’m at my full potential.” I wink and she rolls her eyes at me.

“Darren.”

“Yes, dear?”

She scoffs. “Good luck with everything.”

“Just let her leave. You heard what Rausch said,” Alistair says from behind me.
