“Jeff?” For some reason, that was the part Nelson found most unbelievable. “How does someone with a name as common and stable as Jeff survive Merlin?” he asked, making Nox smother a laugh.

“You should see Jeff. Merlin hired that sexy slab of brainless beef for one purpose and it’s one of the few things Jeff is capable of. Aside from driving.”

“I see…” Nelson said, but he immediately jettisoned all thoughts of Merlin and Jeff because he did not want to see. Not even a little bit. “This vow thing—” He stopped and rolled his eyes when Nox groaned loudly. “I know, it’s the first rule of Dagda Club. I don’t understand why, though, Nox? What’s the point if we all know we’re keeping the same secret? Some of us don’t understand why and it would be nice if we were all on the same page.”

“Why? What difference would it make?” Nox asked sincerely as he went to the stove for the kettle and finished making Nelson’s tea. “I have to suppress this and the fewer people who know about me and it, the better. How is starting a group chat going to help? Do you have a magickal strategy or a solution? You think Merlin and Clancy—the dysfunctional duo—have all the answers?”

“I don’t know,” Nelson admitted, scrubbing his face in frustration. “We need help, though. You don’t want to admit it’s happening, but you’re changing and you’re scared.”

“I’m…concerned. But I can handle it,” Nox said absently as he stirred honey into Nelson’s tea, then slid the cup across the table to him. “What do you think he meant by ‘stay with our Nox?”

“I don’t know. Why would he wish us both well like we were going on a trip or he wouldn’t see us for a while?” Nelson mused, sipping and grunting at the odd taste. His tea was usually more floral but there was an unusual bitterness this time. Nelson opened his mouth to mention it, then shrugged. His tea was a rough blend of leaves and flowers so the flavor was rarely consistent. “Has Merlin always talked in cryptic riddles and called Clancy a cunt?”

That made Nox cackle. “I’m just glad they haven’t killed each other,” he said, turning serious. “I’m sick of being caught in the middle, but I’m the only thing that’s held them together. They love me, Nelson. Regardless of their backstabbing and whatever else it is that they’ve done, I know it was all done out of love.”

“What if they went too far?” he asked and stretched his jaw when his ears rang. Nelson felt lightheaded and sank against the counter behind him.

“You alright?” Nox asked warily, but Nelson waved it off.

“Just feeling a little more drained than usual. It was a long day before I cornered Merlin.”

“Are you sure that’s all? Your eyes look heavier,” Nox said as he came around the work table and reached for Nelson.

“I’m tired, but I’m fine,” he insisted, glad to feel Nox’s arms around him and ready to set the case and the dysfunctional duo aside for the night. “The tea might be a little heavy on the hops, but I probably needed it. Let’s go upstairs and see if we can forget about them for a while.”

Nox tilted back, raising a brow at Nelson. “Are you sure? Not that I’m saying no.”

It was odd how warm and aroused Nelson was feeling as he backed toward the kitchen door, pulling Nox with him. Not in a concerning way, though. Nelson found he liked the gnawing tickle in his core and the heavy throb in the front of his boxers. “Am I sure about this?” He guided Nox’s hand to his fly and his hard-on.

“That’s pretty conclusive,” Nox said, growling as he wrestled with Nelson’s belt and they stumbled up the stairs. “You should let me help you with that.”

Something about this night just felt special.

“Are you sure you’re alright?” Nox asked Nelson again as he lit more candles around the bedroom and bathroom. It was slightly suspicious, the way Nelson kept humming and biting his lip with impatience. But he was irresistible as he followed Nox around, stealing kisses and picking at buttons and zippers.

“I feel a little woozy, but I think it’s you,” Nelson said, nuzzling the back of Nox’s neck and sniffing his hair. “You’re so beautiful and I…need you.”

Nox laughed as he turned in Nelson’s arms and searched his face. “Did you get into something?” His eyes did look heavier and less focused.

“No…” Nelson frowned as he considered, then shook his head. “I’m really tired, but I want to get into you before I pass out.”

“I like the sound of that.” Nox also liked the way Nelson’s teeth scraped his neck as he danced them into the bathroom. Nox could feel the magick in the air.

“This is Imbolc and we are still under the eye of a wolf moon,” Nox told Nelson as they undressed in the pale light spilling through the bathroom window. “It’s when the wolves would hunt by the light of the moon and they’d call to each other through the night, guarding their pack and marking their territory. You’re my wolf and this is your moon.”

“This is my moon,” Nelson murmured as he chased Nox’s lips. He felt the magick too and he wasn’t holding back this time. Nox would have guessed Nelson was drunk but hadn’t seen him touch the decanters in the study. Yet Nelson was flirting and teased Nox as they kicked away their clothes and stumbled into the shower. “I want to hunt with you.” His hands were strong around Nox’s asscheeks as he was lifted and carried under the water. “And I want to mark my territory,” Nelson panted into the hollow of Nox’s shoulder.

“Do it! Mark me!” Nox whimpered, tangling his fingers in Nelson’s hair and grinding against him. His leg was curled around Nelson’s hip and they were both so hard. He covered Nelson’s back and chest with salty shower gel and stroked their cocks with slick, greedy hands.

“Love you,” Nelson huffed against Nox’s tongue as soapy fingers teased his hole, making him breathless and desperate.

“Gods, I love you!” Nox moaned, reaching for the shampoo. It spilled over their heads and he haphazardly lathered to keep things moving. They got a quick rinse before Nox pushed Nelson out and into bed. “And this!” He attacked Nelson’s shaft with long, lazy licks, savoring the taste of him and his strangled moans.
