He should have known that going for a pleasant drive wasn’t enough for this silly place to count it as an activity. He’d set up enough security around other games and puzzles here.

Though he had to admit that it was kind of nice that they were giving him one he hadn’t already seen.

They began searching through the grass and trees for any sign of a motivator pad. But neither of them had any luck finding anything useful. He didn’t have any successspotting any of his drones either, though he knew they had to be here.

Or had the center chosen not to implement the drones after all?

He couldn’t find it in himself to get angry when he knew none of his men were monitoring the drone feeds anyway. His final proposal had been enough to get provisional approval by the board, but there were still a host of issues to work out. For now, they were still relying on the Center’s AI to act as a go between.

He turned back to the cart and the problem at hand.

“Maybe if we get in it will project?” he suggested.

That would mean the AI was actually driving, but he knew the point was to hang out, not to become professional drivers.

Olivia nodded gamely and hopped in, struggling a little with the safety harness. He climbed in after her.

“Let me help you with that?” he asked.

She lifted her hands, nodding.

He moved closer, sliding one hand under the top belt and the other onto her hip to tug the lower part tight. There was a huff and then an electronic hum as the cart powered up.

“Oh,” Olivia said softly.

“It wanted us secured first,” Stark guessed, leaning back and grabbing for his own harness.

The power went out instantly.

“I think it wants us to touch,” Olivia murmured.

He looked over at her, impressed.

“I think you’re right,” he said, holding out his hand.

She placed hers in it. They both looked down at hisbig green hand with her smaller one on top, before he closed his fingers around hers, enveloping her small hand completely.

The cart remained silent and still.

“We need to get closer,” she whispered.

He slid closer, letting go of her hand to wrap an arm around her shoulders. She snuggled in and he bit back a groan at the feel of all that softness against him.

Luckily, the cart powered up immediately and lifted off the ground.

“Yes,” she said happily.

They were already moving forward, though not at a remarkable pace. He wasn’t going to discount progress though, and he had to admit there was something almost fun about this whole thing.

Though he would have felt better if he could see his drones…

Olivia leaned her head on his shoulder and they picked up speed. The breeze lifted her hair, releasing its sweet scent.

“Are you smiling?” she asked.

Stark was surprised to find that he actually was. Her voice was soft and teasing and he gazed down at her, longing to kiss the slightly turned up corners of her mouth.

“It’s kind of fun, isn’t it?” he asked.
