“Call Mann and tell him we’re heading his way—call up Ray and Marshall—tell ‘em we’ve got a live one and to meet us at the cabin.” Cap was taking her to the most isolated place he knew of—The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho. He’d bought property in the middle of nowhere, sitting right on the edge of the Wilderness, and he’d put a huge cabin on it.

He trusted Scope and Mann to make sure their route to the cabin was covered which probably meant a couple of stops in the jet before they made their way to the Wilderness.

Ava stayed in the floorboard for the rest of the ride to the airport. Once there Kyle, Scope, Holland and Cap formed a bubble around her and escorted her to the jet. The sun was just beginning to rise from its sleep on the other side of the world. The sky was highlighted in pale pinks, oranges and yellows.

“You okay?” Cap asked Ava as she sat down and buckled up.

She nodded but didn’t say anything; she just looked out the window.

He put her backpack in the seat next to her and then sat across from her.

“Where are we heading?” she asked in a near whisper.

“Idaho,” he told her. “Safety.”

“Nowhere is safe, Captain.”

“This is as close as I can get you and get them on my turf. Chicago was always temporary.”

“You’re planning on using me as bait?”

He shook his head. “Baby, you’ve been bait for two years now. I’m simply going to get them where I can see them coming.”

“Why won’t they stop? What is it they think I know?”

Cap took a deep breath. “I don’t know. But they think you know something important, and they won’t stop until I get them dead to rights.”

“How’d the Chinese get involved?”

“From what I’ve been able to find out, the Chinese sanctioned the hit on your father.”

She sighed. “I remember Dad spending some time in Beijing the year before he was killed. But he never said anything to us about it. He did bring us back some cute knickknacks but that was the extent of it.”

He eyed her. “Your sister never said anything about something he may have said to her?”

“We told each other pretty much everything, Cap. She never mentioned anything.”

“Get some rest. We’ve got about a two-hour flight before we land in Montana. From there we’ll fly to Idaho.” He handed her a cover from the overhead compartment and turned to head to the front of the plane.

“Cap?” she called.

He turned back to her.

“Thank you,” she said before she looked back out the window, dismissing him.

He left her with her thoughts, wondering if that was the best thing to do. He sat down beside Holland across from Scope and Kyle. “What do we know?”

“More-than-likely those bikers were Chinese, but I don’t have anything concrete yet,” Scope told him. “Mann is monitoring for the police reports as we speak.”

“I’m really surprised they didn’t just blow up the building,” Kyle murmured.

“Too much—they don’t want to draw attention to themselves or they’d have the government all over them,” Cap told her. “Ray and Marshall on their way?”

Holland nodded. “They’ll beat us there.”

“Do we need to get Wolf and his team involved?” Cap asked Holland.

“No, not yet. The fewer of us there are the harder we are to follow. Wolf is a last resort,” Holland replied.
