Page 51 of Finding Ava

Marshall was out cold, saying nothing, and not moving.

Where was her fear? She was probably riding on so much adrenaline it was keeping the fear at bay. She wished she had her earpiece back. She’d give anything to hear Cap’s voice.

Ava realized she should be afraid. She should be very afraid.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Cap had just about lost his mind. He’d had to watch as the Russians drove her away from him with a gun pointed at her head. When the flares had started going off he’d known he didn’t have all the intelligence he’d needed to plan this op.

He made his way quickly back to the cabin noticing that every Russian who’d stepped foot on his property was either dead or gone. He met Wolf, Dude, Abe, Benny, Scope, and Ray back at the cabin.

“Get Tex now,” he told Scope. “And where the fuck is Kyle?”

Tex’s face showed on the big screen then and he looked like he’d been through war himself. “I found out who your mole is,” Tex said and something in his voice put Cap on alert.

On the screen flashed a military ID and picture.

“It’s Kyle?” Cap asked in disbelief.

Tex nodded his head. “She set up the squeeze the Russian’s put on your woman and Marshall.”

“How?” He was stunned. He’d trusted her with damn near everything. “You know what? It doesn’t matter. Where are they heading?”

“Back to Boise,” Tex said. “That’s a guess, but it’s where they landed and probably where they’ll take off. And there’s something else you need to know. Kyle was playing ball with the Russians but she’s also in bed with your former commander.”

“Jennings?” Cap asked hollowly.

“Yeah. Jennings is responsible for the Russians having access to Uncle Sam’s resources while they’re here.”

“I need their location, Tex,” Cap told him urgently.

“I’m following them now—they didn’t disable the navigation so I’m tracking them. If you hurry you can get there before they take off. There’s a jet chartered in Jenning’s name at the Boise airport.”

“Who is going with me?” Cap looked around the war room.

Every single man in the room raised their hands.

“They got by me in the pass,” Benny said in frustration. “I’d like to pay them back.”

“We’re all the way in,” Wolf told him. Everyone nodded.

“Scope, you’re driving,” Cap told him. “Ray you’re with me.”

There would be time to dissect this clusterfuck later. For now, he just needed to concentrate on keeping his shit together. The Russians had his heart and one of his men. Unacceptable.

Scope drove them through the passes and down the mountain and then through more passes and mountains until they were on their way toward Boise. Wolf and his men were following them. They had their weapons in the rear of the vehicle, and he trusted in Tex to keep law enforcement off their backs.

It took them five hours of hard driving to make it to Boise. Once there, they stopped at a rest stop on the outskirts of Boise proper. They were waiting for Tex to work his magic and find out where the Russians had taken Ava and Marshall.

“They aren’t heading to the airport,” Tex had told them. “I show them in Morris Hill right now, stopped outside a small house in that neighborhood. I’ve got CCTV. Hold on.”

Cap didn’t want to ‘hold on’. “Give us coordinates, Tex.”

“They’ve taken Ava and Marshall inside,” Tex reported.

Goddamn. That wasn’t good.

“Let’s move,” Cap told them. “Tex—get us there now!”
