“I know, I know.” She sighs. “I just have the tendency to think of the worst case scenarios. I’m working on it.”

I smile at her. “I know, and you’re doing a great job.”

She laughs. “What are you doing today?”

“I have work later tonight, probably will just get caught up on some laundry until then.”

She nods. “No second date for the weirdo?”

“Oh he’s definitely getting a second date,” I tell her with a smirk, bringing my mug up to my lips.

Her mouth drops open. “Really?”

“Yep. But he doesn’t know that yet. Well, he might. He’s strange,” I ponder.

“What’s his name, again?” Maddie asks innocently, even though she must know because I had sent her a picture of his license.

“Why, so you can go stalk him on social media?” I give her a pointed look. “And let’s not pretend like you haven't done that already.”

“Well yes, obviously.” She narrows her eyes right back at me.

“No more, Maddie! Because you’re going to accidentally like one of his posts?—”

“Oh my God, that happened ONE TIME!” Maddie interrupts, holding up one finger to reiterate her point.

“Two times, Madeline!” I hold up two fingers.

She throws her head back and groans. “I told you I was sorry like a million and one times,” she mumbles.

“I know, pollito, but it was a post from like two years prior. It was mortifying.” I laugh.

“Well, whenever you deign it appropriate to tell your best friend in the world more about your romantic life, let me know.”

“I would much rather you tell me about your romantic life, amor.” I smirk at her. Her cheeks flush.

“Stop, you’re embarrassing me.” She blushes and smiles. Maddie just started dating her high school ‘enemy’. I’ve been biding my time since sophomore year because I knew they were inevitable. But I made the mistake of telling that to Maddie once and she reamed me out. So I quietly watched as everything slowly, and I mean very slowly, fell into place. It’s about time.

“When are you seeing Mr. Decker again?” I ask her before taking a sip of my coffee.

“Elliot,” she says pointedly, “and I are going out later,” she says, pulling her own mug up to cover her huge smile. We’ve already had the ‘be careful’ talks and I trust that she is smart enough to follow her heart while still being true to herself and her values.

“And you’re still just sleeping next to each other in the same bed?” I raise my eyebrow at her.

She flushes again which makes me laugh. “Yes, Ana, you little horndog. Some people enjoy sleeping and cuddling with a romantic partner.”

“Ew,” I scoff. I hate having anyone sleep in the same bed as me. I like my space. I like to kick freely without having to worry about hurting someone. The only person I let into my bed is Maddie, and only after we watch a scary movie and she crawls in because she swears she heard a sound coming from outside.

“You’re so weird.” She sighs. “Maybe you and the weirdo are perfect together after all.”

“We’ll see,” I joke. I look down at my phone and see a text from Hayden.

I smile, and go to look up the song.
