Carolyn stared at Angie for a second in disbelief. After a minute Carolyn nodded.

“Good. You wouldn’t have won an argument against me anyway,” Angie said.

“I had a feeling that would be the case.”

“Do you have any eyeliner?”

Carolyn shook her head.

“You have gorgeous eyes and a perfect complexion, but a little bit of eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lip gloss would be perfect,” Angie said.

They stopped in a beauty shop and a sales lady showed Carolyn how to apply the makeup.

“I need some ice cream,” Angie said.

Angie got a mint chocolate chip cone and Carolyn ordered a chocolate chip cookie dough cone. Apollo was very happy with a vanilla pup cup.

“Who is your favorite author?” Angie asked.

“It depends on my mood. I love Michael and Kathleen Gear when I’m reading historical fiction, Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, and Piers Anthony when I’m in the mood for fantasy. I love Heather Graham, James Patterson, and John Sandford when I want to read mysteries. I also love some of the classics. I read a lot of Tennyson, Byron, and several others.”

“Wow,” Angie said.

They talked for a while about the different books they loved and the characters they fell in love with. Carolyn was extremely smart and well-read. Angie discovered that she could talk about art, philosophy, and just about anything else.

“I’m kidnapping you and taking you with me to the human world if I go back there to stay.”

“Why would you want to do that?” Carolyn asked. “Aren’t you going to be our new luna?”

Angie sighed, bit her lip, and studied Carolyn for a few minutes. “Can I trust you to keep something to yourself for a while?”

Carolyn nodded and Angie knew that she could trust the woman.

“I’m not a shifter. My parents adopted me when I was a baby. I’m a mundane human. I care about Noah and he cares for me, but there are going to be a lot of people who will fight against me being the luna when they find out that I’m human. I came to see how well Noah and I get along and whether we fall in love. If we do, then I’ll fight to be his mate. If we don’t, then I have a ton of great memories to take back with me.”

“You’re a regular human?” Carolyn asked, incredulously.

Angie nodded.

“I can keep a secret, although someone will find out here. People always find out things,” Carolyn said.

“I know. We just need to get our bearings first, and if Noah and I have a strong relationship, then I’ll weather the storm.”

“I’ve got your back,” Carolyn said.

A knock on the door interrupted the conversation.

“Noah and Rufus,” Angie said, hugging first the man and then the dog.

“Hello there, everyone. I’m starving. I would love to take everyone out for dinner,” Noah announced.

“Not me,” Carolyn stammered.

“We would love to have you,” Noah said.

“Thank you. Maybe next time,” Carolyn said. She hugged Angie and Apollo and then pet Rufus on the head briefly before practically running out of the apartment.

“Do I smell bad or something?” Noah asked.
