Angie stared at Gerard dead in the eye and said in an amused voice, “Is that what you think?”

The older man’s face turned three shades of red. Noah choked back a laugh and Carolyn coughed. Angie was pretty sure that Carolyn was ready to slide under the table. Keith, who was sitting on Gerard’s left, had a huge smirk plastered on his face.

I’m off to a good start with Noah’s father, Angie thought. I ruffled his feathers, but I really don’t care. Noah hasn’t asked me to go through the mating ceremony with him yet. Even if he did, Noah already said that he accepted the fact that I would stay involved with my causes.

After an awkward silence, Anna asked Carolyn and Angie what types of books they enjoyed. Although the conversation was pleasant, Angie was relieved when dinner was over.

The dishes were quickly cleared away, as if by magic. While that was happening, the DJ got everything set up on the dais. The DJ played its first song and Noah led Angie onto the dance floor. It was customary for the alpha and his date to dance to the first song alone.

Once again, Angie felt like a thousand eyes burned into her body as everyone watched her and Noah glide across the floor.

“It’s a good thing that Mama insisted that I take dancing lessons,” Angie said. “Otherwise, all of these people would be watching me trip over my feet.”

“You could just stand on the top of my shoes and we could fake it,” Noah said.

“I don’t think that would work,” Angie said, laughing.

He flashed his sexy grin at her and Angie’s heart almost stopped. Noah was devilishly handsome and stole her breath away.

“You do that on purpose, don’t you?” she asked.

“What?”

“Grin at me like that. Keep it up and we will be leaving early, or at least ducking out for a while.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time,” Noah said.

The dance floor was suddenly crowded as the second dance started. He wrapped his arms around her and she laid her head on his chest. He smelled so good. Noah rested his chin on the top of her head as their bodies moved in time to the music.

Angie loved dancing with Noah. Who am I kidding? I love him. I’ve fallen completely head over heels in love with him.

She wanted to tell him how she felt, but she was afraid to. Although she knew he cared about her, she was still a mundane human and he was the alpha of his pack. She was sure that if he loved her, he would overlook that small problem. However, that was the question. Does Noah love me?

Angie had always been a brave person. She never had a problem confronting any situation or asking questions. For the first time in her life, she was terrified to ask a question and face an issue head-on.

She danced to another song with Noah. Angie realized that Carolyn hadn’t moved from her chair in the corner. Carolyn was half-hidden by shadows.

“Oh, no, she doesn’t,” Angie said.

“What?” Noah asked.

“Carolyn is hiding,” Angie said. “She will dance tonight. Will you excuse me?”

He brushed a kiss across her lips, grinned, and said, “Do your stuff.”

Angie pulled a protesting Carolyn to the dance floor. It was a line dance that Carolyn did really well.

“Why in high Hades were you hiding out in the shadows if you know how to dance?”

“I didn’t have anyone to dance with,” she said.

“No one can find you if you are hiding, you goose.” Angie laughed.

The two women danced to a couple more fast songs. Then, when a slow song played, Noah approached.

He looked at Angie, raised his eyebrows, smirked, and said, “I’m not here for you. Come on, Carolyn.”

Angie giggled because Carolyn suddenly looked as though she was going to faint dead away.
