“That word ‘yet’ is the issue. I think that you might want to start looking for a replacement now before things do start getting weird.”

Heaving a heavy sigh, Zac replied, “You’re right.”

“So, back to this Marsden thing. Do you really think that this type of magic could actually exist?” Ian asked.

Zac sat back in his chair, ran his fingers through his hair, and then rubbed his face.

“I honestly can’t say no. It might sound farfetched to us, but to most mundane people, the idea of shifters, faeries, ghosts, vampires, witches, and other creatures are just mythological supernatural creatures, yet here we are,” Zac said. “This world has infinite possibilities, so I can’t say that it doesn’t exist. But, just that fact that she believes that it exists is dangerous enough.”

“You have a very good point. That is why it is so important that we stop her,” Ian said. “Hopefully, with all the different clans and packs working together, we can stop her.”

The day went by slowly. The different search parties checked in periodically, but there were no signs of the cub.

“There has to be a cave hidden somewhere,” Ian said. “They have looked all over that mountain, and even criss crossed paths some.”

“Marsden and her coven probably found a cave that we didn’t even know about,” Zac said, dejectedly.

“Mom asked that I come for dinner tonight. Do you wanna come?” Ian asked.

“Nah, I’m good. I’m heading over to Howlers’.”

“You’re just hoping to flirt with Olivia,” Ian said.

“So, what if I am? At least you won’t be there, cramping my style,” Zac retorted.

The place wasn’t busy, and he talked Olivia into sitting down with him for a couple of minutes and talking to him.

“How was your day?” Olivia asked, as she put a beer down in front of him.

“Stressful,” Zac said. “There is a missing adolescent bear shifter. All the clans had members out looking for him, but he wasn’t found.”

“That’s too bad,” Olivia said. “I know he must be terrified and his parents are so upset. I wish I could help.”

Zac knew that she meant what she was saying. There didn’t seem to be anything fake about Olivia’s feelings.

Changing the subject, he asked, “Where are you from?”

A guarded look passed over her face, and he could almost see the brick wall instantly being put up.

“From a few states up north,” she said.

“Without big mountains,” he added.

“Right,” she said. “I have the morning off. Can I go help look for the cub?”

He knew that she was changing the subject. Zac wanted to know what she was hiding but was certain that if he tried to push her into saying anything, she would close up tighter than a drum.

“We’ll send out more search parties that are coordinated with search parties with other clans. It’s sweet of you to offer, though,” Zac said.

“I just hate to think of him out there scared and lost,” she said. “I need to get back to work. I’ll bring your food out in just a minute.”

He watched as she greeted the customers and dished out drinks. She moved very gracefully, and if he didn’t know any better, he would have thought that she was a dancer.

When she stopped by his table again, he asked her, “Did you study ballet or anything like that when you were younger?”

“Nope. Would you believe that I have two left feet, and I’ve been known to trip on air? The only reason I haven’t done it here yet is because I pay very close attention to how I am walking, and I concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other.”

“Well, you do it very gracefully,” he said.
