“Ugh,” Olivia said.

“I know. You handle them great, though,” Jade said. “You’ve only had to get real with one person.”

“Most of them know that Sean will break them in half if they go too far with any of the staff,” Olivia said.

“You got that right,” Sean said, coming up behind Jade.

A little while later, Marvin strolled into the bar and sat down at the counter. Jade’s face instantly lit up as a huge smile crossed her face. She leaned over and brushed a kiss on his lips and poured him a beer.

Olivia walked over to grab a couple shots of whiskey with beer chasers for a couple of the bikers who were trying to see who could out drink the other.

“Hey, Olivia. How’s it going?” Marvin asked.

“Great, and you?”

“Can’t complain,” he said.

He looked back at Jade who was putting the shots and beer on the tray. Olivia could see the love he had for her friend in his silvery eyes. Smiling, she took the tray over to the customers who were arm wrestling each other.

“You guys are going to end up killing each other.” Olivia laughed.

“We haven’t done that since we both tried to see if we could shoot apples off of each other’s heads,” one of them said.

“Please tell me you didn’t,” Olivia groaned, rolling her eyes.

“They did,” James said. “Until I made them stop and took away their guns.”

“James took away our knives, too, because we decided to do a knife throwing contest like they do in the circus,” the other one said.

“We were going to do axes, but James threatened to chain us to a tree all night long until we sobered up,” the first guy said.

“Good for James. It sounds like someone needs to keep you goof balls in check,” Olivia said, laughing as she walked away.

After a while, Marvin left. Olivia walked up to the counter and said, “He loves you.”

“I think he does. I love him, too,” Jade said, wiping down the counter.

“Why don’t you two go through the mating ceremony?”

“It’s difficult with dragon shifters. They are very particular about who they let into their clan. They usually only sanction mating ceremonies between other dragon shifters. I think that Marvin wouldn’t care, but I don’t want to hurt him,” Jade said.

“That’s terrible,” Olivia said.

“He knows how I feel about him. Things will work out the way that they’re supposed to,” she said.

Olivia put her hand on top of Olivia’s and said, “I hope so.”

Zac asked Olivia to go to the rodeo with him the next night. His brother rode the broncs and wrestled steers. Olivia had gone to rodeos in Nebraska and enjoyed them – except for the calf roping.

She had a lot of fun with Zac even when he teased her because she refused to watch the calf roping. The poor things were just babies and they were terrified and they got hurt. Eating a full-grown bull or cow was one thing. Torturing a calf for fun was another.

That night after Zac dropped her off, she stared at her computer. Finally, she braved turning it on to check her email. She saw that she had one from Sandra.

Hi, Sis. I hope you are doing well. We are okay here. Declan stopped me this morning to ask if I’ve heard from you and if I knew where you were. I told him that I had no idea where you might be. He thinks that since you got away, it caused him to be cursed, although I have no idea how he made the connection from the prophecy about you starting a war and him being cursed. I personally think that he is losing his mind. A friend of his got into a fight and was shot. He thinks it's your fault.

As far as I know, he still has no idea where you are. Don’t tell me or your folks, because then, somehow, Declan would know.

Just stay holed up and be safe. Eventually, all of this will die down. Know that you are loved.
