“I know. I can’t help it,” Sean said.

Zac sat down in his usual seat and looked around the room. Olivia was talking to a family. They were smiling and obviously enjoying the conversation. Then, she headed his way.

“Good evening.” She smiled brightly at him. “What can I get for you?”

“Do I really have to tell you?”

“You never know, you might decide to change things up a little,” Olivia said. “A change of pace is always good.”

“Fine, bring me a sweet iced tea, and you choose what I’m having for dinner tonight,” he said. “Surprise me.”

“Oh, no. Not a chance. If you don’t like it, you’ll blame it on me.”

“There isn’t anything on the menu that I don’t like,” Zac said.

“Fine.” She grinned. “I think chicken fried chicken, country green beans, and fried okra are what’s for dinner.”

“Are you trying to clog my arteries?” he asked.

“I haven’t seen you order those yet, and you told me to pick anything off the menu.”

“Fair enough,” Zac said.

She walked away to put in his order and then stopped off at a table with an old man sitting alone. Olivia pulled out a chair and sat next to him, and he started talking animatedly to her.

Sean walked by and saw Zac watching her.

“How did she get old man Parr to talk to her?” Zac asked, astonished. “I don’t think I’ve heard him say three words to anyone, ever.”

“He loves her. As a matter of fact, almost every person who comes in here loves her. She remembers all of their family members’ names. They tell her their life stories, their problems, and everything about themselves to her,” Sean said. “She always remembers to ask about their families and how a certain situation turned out. I think she knows everyone in town better than the old timers.”

“Wow,” Zac said.

“She is a gold mine. She has a knack for figuring people out. She seems to know what people are thinking and how they are feeling by instinct,” Sean said. “It goes beyond a shifter’s natural talents. She would make a great psychiatrist or psychologist.”

“I guess I had better watch myself,” Zac said.

“I just wish I knew the real reason that she ran away from home. My gut tells me that it is something more serious than just a broken relationship. People don’t leave their packs for anything as simple as that.”

“You and me both,” Zac said. “Let me know if you figure it out.”

“Of course,” Sean said, heading back toward the bar.

Olivia sauntered back over with his plate and refilled his drink.

“How about dinner tomorrow night? Someplace besides here,” Zac said.

“There are restaurants in Angel’s Creek besides Howlers’?” she asked, pretending to be astonished.

“Believe it or not, there really are,” Zac said.

“I’m sure the food won’t be as good, but I s’pose I can go with you,” she replied.

“Excellent. I’ll pick you up around six,” Zac said.

He watched Olivia interact with other customers. All of them were smiling and happy when she talked to them. Sean was right that she had a gift.

She stopped by to drop off his check. He laid out cash that paid for his meal and included a generous tip.
