Heaving a huge sigh, John stood up. “Stop by and see your mother. She misses you,” he said, and then walked out.

Shaking his head, Zac thought, I saw her yesterday. I doubt if she misses me very much.

Ian popped his head in and said, “I waited for Papa Wolf to leave. What did he want?”

“The same as usual.”

“Time for you to find a mate, huh?”

“You guessed it,” Zac said.

“I’m hungry. It’s your turn to buy,” Ian said.

Howlers’, where the two of them ate most nights, wasn’t too crowded. They were usually busy, although not exceedingly so except on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It was primarily a shifter bar, although mundane folks were never treated badly. Several of the local biker club members hung out at Howlers’. Sean McCullum welcomed everyone, as long as they didn’t cause trouble.

“Wow, look at her,” Ian said. “She’s new and beautiful. I think I’m in love.”

Zac followed the direction of Ian’s gaze. He had to admit that the blond woman picking up an order from the bar was sexy. She had that girl next door look that made people stop and take a second or even third look.

She wore a big smile when she stopped by their table.

“Howdy, fellas. My name is Olivia and I’ll be your waitress tonight. Can I start you off with anything to drink?”

“Olivia. I don’t think that we’ve met. You must be new in town. I’m Ian.”

“Nice to meet you. I am new,” she said.

Zac didn’t say anything. He had caught her scent, and the gears deep inside his soul started moving and locking into place. She was his fated mate.

Ian ordered a beer and when Zac still didn’t say anything, Ian lightly punched him in the arm.

“Earth to Zac. Are you having a beer?”

“Oh, yeah, sure,” Zac said. “Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts for a moment.”

“Are you going to eat, or just here for the beer and game?”

“We’re hungry,” Ian said.

“Okay. Here are menus, and I’ll be right back with your food.”

“We eat here practically every night. No menus needed, thanks. Just tell Bob that Ian wants steak tonight, medium well, a baked potato, and whatever vege is on,” Ian said.

“Make that two,” Zac added.

“Sure thing. I’ll be right back,” Olivia said.

He saw her type in their order to the computer and then tear off the printout that the cook would use to prepare the food. She leaned over the counter and spoke to Jade Thomas, the bartender.

Jade looked over at them, waved, and then got out their steins. Ian had bought the steins when he had been stationed in Germany.

“Steins, huh,” Olivia teased as she set beer on the table in front of the men.

“It saves you some steps,” Ian said. “We’ll take our beer two mugs’ worth at a time.”

“How do you like working for Sean?” Zac asked.

“He’s great so far. He can do the best Irish, Scottish, and French accents,” Olivia said. “He tried them all out on me while he was training me. A couple of times, I had to ask him to switch back to good ole American.”
