“Has he started telling you jokes yet?” Zac asked.

“No, are they bad?”

“They’re awful,” Ian assured her. “We’re pretty sure that he subscribes to bad dad jokes, and he memorizes them all during his spare time.”

“What makes them even worse is that he tells them in one of his fake accents,” Zac said. “You should look up a few bad jokes so you have some to share when he cuts loose on you.”

“I might do that,” she said. “Thanks for the heads up.”

Sean came over and squeezed Ian on the shoulder. “These two lads ain’t givin’ ye a bit o’ trouble, are they?” he asked in what was supposed to be a Scottish burr.

“Aren’t you guys the same age?” Olivia asked.

“Sure, but everyone’s a lad or lass in Scotland,” Sean said.

“Oh, brother,” Zac groaned.

“Ye know me mother is Irish and me father is Scottish,” Sean said.

Zac watched Olivia giggling, her blue eyes shining.

“Sean, your family has been on this continent for centuries,” Zac said. “Don’t make me break out the family tree.”

Olivia shook her head and walked away, laughing.

“Where did you find her?” Zac asked.

“Benny sent her to me. She needed a job, and I needed a waitress.”

“How is she doing?” Ian asked.

“Great, so far,” Sean replied.

Oliva came back with their food and said, “I told Bob what you said. He told me to hush because he knows what you guys want. He said you seem to be your mothers made over, because you always eat the same things on the same nights. Tonight is Tuesday, so you both have steaks.”

Zac looked over at Ian in mock horror. “We’re predictable and boring,” he said, giving an exaggerated gasp.

“That’s what it sounds like,” Ian said. “Next time, I’ll have to order onion rings with my steak.”

“Don’t say anything to Sean. He would do something dirty, like change up the menu,” Ian said.

“Yeah. He would add dishes like haggis and corned beef hash,” Zac added.

Olivia made a face and said, “Nasty.”

“You will have to let me show you around town sometime,” Zac said. “It’s not big, but there are some pretty awesome sights to see here and in New Mexico.”

She simply smiled and said, “Enjoy your dinner.”

“Oooh, you got dissed,” Ian said.

“Quit talking like a teenager from the 1980s,” Zac teased.

Zac and Ian talked like they normally did, but Zac only half paid attention to the conversation. There was something about Olivia’s scent that was hauntingly familiar, although he was certain that he had never smelled it before. He had felt his soul scream fated mate at him, but there was no way that this stranger could be. He knew nothing about her. For all he knew, she could be another serial killer hiding out from the law.

He decided that it was simply because it had been a while since he had been with a woman. His duties as an alpha seemed to keep him busy most of the time. Regardless of the reason, he couldn’t shake Olivia’s scent or the idea that she was his fated mate.

“I have got to do something,” he muttered to himself.
