“I don’t know,” Zac growled, “but it kind of looks that way. We have to find them before anything bad happens to them.”

“There are several shifters from all the clans in the area looking for them. We’ll find them,” Ian said. His tone wasn’t convincing.

They searched the ground for the next clue. As they kept their nose to the ground, they would occasionally catch the women’s scent or see another drop of blood, either on the ground or a tree branch.

“The witches tried to mask their way,” Zac said. “At this rate, it’ll take us a month to get to the women.”

Just then, Marvin landed near them. If Zac hadn’t been frantically worried about Jade and Olivia, he would have been impressed with the way that the large dragon managed to set down perfectly between two trees that were close together, without losing a scale.

“There is some unusual activity in an area not far from here. We think that there is a cave that isn’t mapped out on anything. However, there is one patch of plants that has died and the dirt is a weird color around it. Plus, there are a couple of bushes that look off,” Marvin said.

“Let’s go,” Zac said.

Sean and a couple of the other searchers arrived near the location at the same time as Zac, Marvin, and Ian. Shifters from other clans quickly arrived as well. Soon, there was an entire army ready to face the five witches in the cave.

One of the witches came out of the cave and looked around carefully before walking toward the creek. Sean pounced on her, and he and another shifter tied her with special rope that Jennifer had provided. They used old fashioned duct tape to cover her mouth. They left her sitting there with a dragon shifter who threatened to roast her if she even squirmed wrong.

Zac slunk into the cave, keeping to the shadows. He saw a large cauldron in the middle of the large room. Jade and Olivia were in the dark, far away from the entrance. They saw him immediately.

“Now,” he told Ian.

Suddenly, the cave was full of shifters. The witches tried throwing different spells. One of the tiger shifters roared when a burn spell caught him in the side. A bear shifter roared when one of the witches threw a knife at him and it hit him in the shoulder.

The cave started to shake, and Zac heard rocks falling in the back.

“We’ve got to get out of here,” Zac exclaimed, sending telepathic messages to all the shifters. “It’s caving in.”

Three of the witches had been captured and tied. That left Marsden.

She cackled and said, “Do you have what it takes, Alpha, to defeat me? Or am I going to put you down with the wave of my pinky finger like I did all those other shifters?”

Zac didn’t reply. He simply watched and waited, ready to pounce.

Marsden suddenly threw something at him. Zac ducked to the side and pounced at the same time, knocking the witch off balance. The spell exploded against the wall, taking out a huge chunk.

His mouth was on her throat.

“Zac, don’t,” Ian said. “You’re not a killer. We’ve got her.”

Hesitating, Zac thought about the fear that the shifters must have felt and how Marsden treated them.

Sean nudged him from the other side and said, “Not worth what it would cost your soul. Let the witch queen and her people handle it.”

“Do it,” Marsden spit at him.

His heart racing, Zac let go of her throat and backed off. Marsden was quickly tied and taped and propped up against the cave wall. They didn’t want her near her other witches.

Marvin and Zac shifted and ran to Olivia and Jade.

“How do we undo these knots?” Zac asked.

“Let’s try the knife that they hit the bear shifter with,” Marvin suggested.

It cut through the ropes like butter. Marvin was able to use his talon to cut through the cuffs that prevented the women from shifting. As soon as they were freed, Olivia jumped into Zac’s arms and Marvin wrapped Jade up in his.

“Are you guys okay?” Zac asked. “We saw the blood droplets on the trail.”

“My feet hurt like hell, and I have some scratches, but I’m okay,” Olivia said.
