"It's a little early for that," he pointed out, smirking.

"Not if you didn’t sleep," I mumbled, glancing down at the letter in my hand. I was determined to end this and move on, and suddenly, I wasn’t so sure. It was stupid of me to think that he would change overnight. Perhaps he thought I was great at my job, but that wouldn’t mean that he would start acting like a human being. And most importantly, he needed to stop ignoring me.

"Look at me, Electra," he commanded, and my body reacted instinctively. I raised my head to meet his blue eyes, which held no hostility. "Give me that envelope."

Without another thought, I handed it to him, staring with wide eyes as he tore it apart. Slowly, he walked around my desk and threw the pieces into the bin, the whole time maintaining eye contact with me. Then he stopped a few inches from my trembling frame. The proximity of his body, his cologne that tingled my nose, and the heat that radiated from him turned my knees into jello.

"I have some important things to do today," he uttered, his eyes roaming my face. I knew exactly how busy his day was. "After I’m done, we’ll talk. Okay?"

I nodded, hypnotized by his stare. It was absolutely different from what I was used to. He leaned even closer; his lips were almost touching my cheek when he whispered against my skin.

"Good girl."

The tingling in my core turned into an inferno of sparks travelling to every nerve in my body. These two simple words set my body on fire. I was barely able to stand.

"Let’s go back to work," he muttered, stepping away from me. He gave me one last quick look, then left me standing next to my desk, all hot, bothered, and confused.

I sat down, repeatedly replaying in my head what had just happened. I wiped my sweaty hands with a wet napkin, wincing when the phone rang. With all the duties I had, I needed to pull myself together and act like a professional.

I spent the entire day running around between the offices, copying piles of papers, replying to emails, and making coffee for an enormous group of men and women that gathered in a conference room. At five pm, I was exhausted. I plopped down into the armchair in Lena’s office just to ease the ache in my feet. She wasn't there, but I knew she wouldn’t mind about my visit.

After a few minutes, I stood up, returning to my place on the highest floor. With my head in my phone, I didn’t notice Andreas Thorn sitting on my chair, but when he spoke, I almost had a heart attack.

"I need your signature, Miss Hernandez." When I reached the table, he handed me the silver pen and pointed with his long tattooed finger at the dotted line.

"What is this?" I asked, frowning at the paper.

"This makes me officially your lawyer," he answered, standing up. "I took care of that little misunderstanding. I hope it was the first and the last thing I do for you."

"No court hearing?" I raised my eyebrows suspiciously because, after the talk with Zoe, I knew he must have done something crazy to get me out of this.

"Nothing, Miss Hernandez," he stated in a tone that didn’t allow any other questions. I quickly wrote my name at the bottom of the paper and returned it to him.

"Thank you, Mr Thorn," I said sincerely, trying for a grateful expression, yet he was like a stone. Nothing could melt his cold heart.

"You owe me a drink," he pointed out, narrowing his eyes at me. "No, thinking about it, I want at least a bottle. I’ll get drunk while musing about how lucky you are to work for one of the most powerful men in the world."

I was staring at him, perplexed by his words, while he folded the paper with my signature and hid it in the inner pocket of his black jacket.

"Goodbye, Miss Hernandez." He flashed me one last annoyed look and turned around to leave.

"Goodbye," I replied, watching him walk away. "Have a nice evening."

He didn’t react; he just left, and I took a deep breath, feeling like a boulder had been removed from my shoulders. I was prepared to face the consequences of that stupidity, yet I couldn’t be happier that I could put this whole thing behind me. I tried not to think about it very much, but I had to admit that I was scared of ending up in jail. Thankfully, the best lawyer in the city got me out of this.

I really should get him a bottle of something expensive.

The Drive

Electra

Itwasalmostseveno’clock when my boss walked out of his office in a red polo t-shirt and blue jeans, and I nearly sighed. The man was absolutely gorgeous.

He returned from the last meeting fifteen minutes ago, and he decided to take a shower and change. I was patiently waiting for him, not knowing what to expect. He said we needed to talk, yet I was nervous about finding out what was hidden behind those words.

I was standing next to my desk, arranging the pens, trying not to gape at him. His muscles flexed when he was putting the black leather jacket on himself, and when he raised his hands, his shirt rolled up a little, and I saw a thin trail of black body hair disappearing under his pants.
